how do I lower ballflight?

So I went to try out a few drivers this morning, and was getting rediculously high launch angles (22 was the highest, 16 was the lowest), and I hit my driver high. I hit all of them straight, and misses came in the form of a small cut. Is there a way I can lower the ballflight by changing my swing?

try putting more weight on your left side at your set-up. It usually works for me.

It's not really ballooning, the ball is still moving at a decent rate of speed up in the air, it doesn't die and drop from the sky, it hits the ground hard. My main concern is when the wind blows, my shots are done.

I have the same problem. I havent found a fix in the equipment area, however, if you play a big draw in the wind it helps to keep the ball flat. I also play a little stinger in the wind.

i was gonna suggest the exact opposite, and tee the ball higher. for me, the higher tee'd ball flattens my swing, bringing the ball flight down (and tendency to draw the ball).

I should've said this before as well. I don't tee down because that promotes a downward swing path; hit down=more spin=ball goes high. I'll try it though and see where I'm at.

I would say ball position is a fix for sure... I think teeing it up too far up in the stance helps catch on upswing, therefore hitting higher.

 

Are you breaking your wrist at impact? This could add loft at impact.

I think the "tee it high to hit it on the upswing" is one of those golf myths.

 

Did you happen to catch Stuart Appleby's Playing Lessons From the Pros? He tees the ball up so the top of the ball is even with the crown of his club. However, if you do it this way, you MUST play the ball forward enough. If you get it too far back, you will hit it with a descending blow.

 

However, watching the pros at the Shell Open this weekend, they all do things differently. Some tee it 4" up in the air, while others tee up their drivers like irons. There's a million ways to do it, just keep experimenting till you can find your ideal way.

 

BTW, a slight descending blow isn't always a bad thing, it seems to work OK for Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose. :golfer:
