Where do I start

I spent some time on an indoor monitor today and I am not sure where to start to increase my distance off the tee. The equipment and Avg. results are as follows...

8.5* TM R7 (weight set to neutral - high) with stiff NV-75 shaft
Brand new Callaway HX Hot ball

Swing speed is 105 - smooth tempo
Ball speed is 154
Launch angle is 15.2*
Backspin 2000

Carry distance was 235
Total distance was 252

Without buying a new driver, is there a shaft or ball change that might help out a little? Or is it just my swing?

well, launch monitors aren't always perfect,

 

example,

 

i hit my R510TP 9.5 WIT NV75X around 280ish,

 

today, went to the launch monitor, tried out 905R 9.5 WIT V2 STIFF

 

i was carrying the ball about 220 most of the time, and yet the ball speed was high 160's also, launch angle was 16degrees...

 

but when i tried R7 425TP 9.5 WIT REAX 75S, i was hitting about 273yds(carry) average, ball speed around the same, but with the launch angle of 12-11 degrees...

 

IMO, best thing to do is try out a demo, try out on actual golf course, and see which you like the best...

i guess you could try some distance golf balls, such as HX HOT(which flies pretty far!)

 

so im saying Launch Monitor isnt always perfect,

 

but those vector machine located outdoor range(ones that titleist use) are pretty accurate,

Your actual swing speed is probably closer to 100mph which would better explain the 235 carry. On a luanch monitor ss is not measured rather it is calculated from ball velocity. The lower the loft of the driver, the more ball velocity and thus the higher your ss will be calculated. I would try changing two variables first, one at a time to see if they help. For your ss an 8.5* is far too low. I know it showed you with a 15* launch angle but you should be playing a 10 or 10.5*. You must be scooping the ball/flipping your hands at impact to get that high of a launch angle with an 8.5* driver especially one with a stiff shaft. That could also explain your 235 carry. You need to make more solid contact with the clubface. The other thing I wold change is to try a different shaft with different kick points, maybe even in regular flex.

i would say its the swing, driver and ball.

 

- launch monitor swing speeds aren't exact. during a fitting i had, we also used a swing meter and it was 2-3 mph faster than the launch monitor. also, you can't trust the carry distances and total differences, because they are all based on calculations, which vary in the real world.

- with a 105 swing speed, i think 8.5* loft is pretty low. i would look at a 9.5*.

- you launch angle is way way to high for 8.5* loft driver with an aldila nv-75. aldila nv-75 is a high kickpoint/low trajectory shaft, with a stiff tip. you must have the clubhead ahead of your hands at impact, hitting the ball on the upswing. i would imagine with that can't of launch angle, you have a really step swing plane.

- your spin is way way too low for that ball speed. this is a combination of the 8.5* loft, the aldila nv-75 shaft, and the callaway hx hot (distance ball, very little spin)

I went in to get numbers so I could look to a new shaft that would help get more loft and hopefully add more distance. The guy that was working with me had me move the ball further forward in my stance right off the bat. I know it is not correct, but I used to place my ball about 4 inches inside my left heel. With the new postion I felt like I was reaching at impact which could explain the high launch angle. I am still looking to replace the shaft for this season and will look into proper fitting again later in the season.

 

I am heading out to Southern CA in September for some vacation. I wish we were allowed to stop by TaylorMade and get a proper fitting.
