TM r7 tp 7.5 degrees

Hi

 

I'm looking for a low launch driver I hit the ball fairly well 10 hcap, but play on a windy links type course and feel that my handicap would benefit from a really low launch driver that isn't affected by the wind. I have a smooth tempo approx 100 - 105 mph, (8 iron 150yds ) and am thinking of trying a 7.5 degree Taylormade R7 tp. I hit the ball fairly high and as my swing gets better/faster I seem to be hitting the ball higher than I did a year ago.

Have any of you guys any advice on this club or can you suggest another club.

7.5* is a pretty low loft. How consistent are you with the big stick? The lower loft could add more side spin which could increase your chances of hitting wayward shots.

 

Remember, trajectory has a lot to do with shafts. I would suggest staying with a 9.5* or 8.5* loft, but maybe switching shafts to bring down trajectory.

I agree, you will become alot less accurate. Try an 8.5 with a Speeder 757. I know it isn't the cheapest of shafts, but I was hitting one in an 8.5 Comp and I was getting some great numbers. Try it out.

Presently hitting a Cobra comp 454, 9 degrees with a Penley eta 75 shaft, I hit this too high for my liking so I think 7.5 may be ok, I don't think that 8.5 would make too much difference, I may be wrong any ideas,

You wouldn't necessarily need the 7.5. You are greatly changing club characteristics. The Cobra's are in no way low launching drivers whereas the R7 TP is known to be a little bit of a lower launching driver, some would even argue that it plays a half * to a full * less than stated loft. 8.5* with the Accuflex evolution would be a great combo to bring the ballflight lower. I play the Evolution in my driver and have had trouble hitting it high, boy does the stiff tip on this bad boy bring your ballflight down. Give it a shot, you wont regret it.

Tried a Ping G5 9 degree aidila NV 65 stiff shaft today...I was impressed I swung it with a smooth unhurried rythmn and it just bombed, it stayed low and was very easy to draw, it's the best driver I have hit, it was very forgiving and very long.

A Bridgestone J33 would be very low launching, so the loft options could be considered easier.

I used to have a 7.5 r510 TP and a 7.5 r7 TP. The r7 launched lower than the 510 did, prehaps due to shaft? (757X vs prolite). I didn't think either was any harder to control than a higher lofted model. I also don't find the J33 460 to be low hitting except when you miss it low.

I played a R5N 9.5 with a Grafalloy Blue and that helped bring the ball flight down to manageable, then i got a R5TP 8.5 with a V2 and man is it a nice medium trajectory. great combo

My swing speed is around 110 or so and I play to an index of 3.5. I had the same problem of too high of a ball flight and fixed it by adding weight to my R7. I play a 9.5* with a Graphite Desgn YS-6+ shaft. I have the weight configured at (heel to toe) 12-2-2-14. This set-up gives me a nice mid flight with a soft draw.
