yardage difference between my PW and GW

Hi,

 

I was at the range yesterday trying to work out the kinks before I play in a company tourney on Friday. I am about an 18-20 HC. I spent a lot of time with my wedges trying to make sure I had a very good idea what my distance was with each one since it has been a while since I played. I was hitting my PW (I think it is 48 degrees) about 120, and my GW (52 degrees) about 100. Does this mean I should probably think about getting a 50 degree wedge to fill in the yardage between my gap wedge and pitching wedge? Or should I be thinking more about hitting my pitching wedge softer to try and get the perfect distance when the time comes to hit a 110 yard shot. Thanks for your advice.

What kind of clubs? The newer clubs are being de-lofted so it "seems" like you are hitting them farther.

 

Your PW very well could be a 45 or 46* club.

 

Even so, learn to take some off of the pw or to jump on the Gap wedge.

I'd say that's an acceptable gap. What do you think about getting a wedge around 56 or 58? That should be around 65/70 yards or so based on what you said before...

What is the difference in yardage btwn your gap wedge and sand wedge?

 

At your stage (and mine) I wouldn't fool around with how hard you hit each club, instead I would make a slightly shorter backswing to adjust the distance. Try less than a full backswing to cut the distance to hit 110 yds w your PW.

You want to know a great club between your Gap and your wedge?

 

Take your normal grip on the wedge, and choke down about 1 inch. This should take enough distance off of the wedge to get inbetween the two full swings.

I do this all the time, and have to say that this works wonders... don't have to worry about having to swing too hard, etc. This works on all clubs for me. Choking down on the driver is good too for control.

 

I'm now working on the dave pelz's 3X4 system, basically 3 different swings with the same club to get 3 different distances... pretty cool if you ask me! (not too good at it yet :) , but working on it!)
