Titleist making a forged wedge...

...will they be coming out with one anytime soon?

i was just at the driving range today and hitting a couple of diff wedges and thought if titleist was gonna come out with a forged wedge in the future. i was hitting some nice wedges and then went back to my SM vokey 58* and though i have no real complaints, you just can't beat the forged feel and side by side the cast isn't as sweat. so does anyone know if titleist plans to come out with a forged vokey anytime soon?

They already went down that road with the DD, DLIII, CS, BF, SE series of wedges for Duval, Love, Strange, Faxon, Elkington. All their different grinds with a little leather tag with the details on it. That was when their public offerings were mainly cast steel, now they have switched forged irons and cast steel wedges.

yea i was thinking how forged irons = cast irons, the opposite of callaway but i hope we see a titleist forged wedge soon.

One of the reason's Vokey does not do a forged wedge, is because of all the different bounces and sole width's that Titleist offers; the cost is just too high. That said, the technology breakthrough on the 775CB's, may lead to a possible forged Vokey before long. We shall see.

i love the feel of my nike forged wedges, but what the vokey wedges lack in feel (which isn't much especially for a cast club) they make up for ease to hit from any lie and there versatility. for the record, i use the oil vokeys and unchromed forged nike which will have some effect on feel.

it's the tour chrome... strip it back to raw and it will feel pretty good.

I thought I heard something about Bob saying that cast wedges are better because they don't wear as easy. I think he justified it by saying that players like to get comfortable with a wedge and when they do they like to hold onto it for as long as possible. Forging would merely shorten the life span.

That's kind of sort of the answer, phillypete.

 

The casting process allows you to use harder metals which are too brittle to be formed by the forging process.

 

So marginally increased durability is the result more of material used than the process.

I hit DL III and DD for two years. They were awesome wedges. They would hold greens anymore because they were worn out. Great feel though.
