looking for a lower ball flight
Im looking for a replacement iron to my Mizuno Mp-30's. I wanted to know what people could recomend that would help me bring down my ball flight. I like the Mp-32 and the Mp-60s but have heard they hit the ball very high. Another set I am considering is the Titleist 735cm. Also are there speciffic sets of shafts that could bring down the flight?

Thanks,

The MP32's hit the ball high, but not as high as the MP33's. The 60's do hit pretty high. I find that with my 735's, they flight the ball fairly low, so if you get them you wont be dissapointed at all.

I would take a serious look at the Titleist 695 CBs for a cavity back. I have found that Titliest for some reason have a tendency to offer slightly lower ball flights.

I have dynamic gold x100s in my Mp-30s and have no problem hitting those high. Thanks for the tip about the 695cb I will look into that. I dont think I will have any problems with the stronger lofts because its only a 1 degree change coming from Mp-30s.

I have heard that Titleist irons come standard at a degree or 2 upright so if thats what I have my mizunos at now would u recomend ordering the Titleists at standard lie?

Thanks for your help and keep the suggestions coming

Great suggestion, the 695's have strong lofts to keep ball flight down. Equipment wise, if you want to stick with a cavity back, loft will be the number one factor in determining ball flight.

Here are the specs for the Mizunos:

3 21* 58.0°

4 24° 58.5°

5 27° 59.0°

6 31° 60.0°

7 35° 61.0°

8 39° 62.0°

9 43° 62.5°

PW47° 63.0°

And the Titleist's

3 20* 60.0°

4 23° 61.0°

5 26° 62.0°

6 30° 62.5°

7 34° 63.0°

8 38° 62.0°

9 42° 63.5°

PW46° 64.0°

I wouldn't put the 735's in the same class. They're fine in the short irons, but will launch the ball in teh long and mid irons (which isn't really a bad thing IMHO). So if you want to keep the high flight in the mid and long irons, then that may be a great set to go with.

Also remember that just about any blade will hit the ball lower than a cavity back even at a weaker loft. So if you really want to get rid of that high ball flight (not exactly sure why you'd want to do that) go with a muscle back.

Well I want to bring my ball flight down because it can get out of control with any bit of wind. If anyone has any suggestions on what blades I could use to bring down my flight I would appreciate it. Also are there any blades that I could play that would atleast give me similar forgivness to the Mp-30's possibly the 695 mb's.

Thanks,

Getting with a clubfitter and hitting off a lie board will tell you that...I wouldn't just order them based on that assumption.

I have both the MP32's and MP60's. I do not agree that the MP32's launch the ball high. I fight a high ballflight myself and, for that reason, am moving away from the MP60's. However, I find that the MP32's have a nice controlled ballflight all the way through the set.

Also, I have hit the Titleist 695cb's. And, for all the hype, they do not launch that low. They do launch lower than many cavity backs, but certainly no lower than most muscle backs, or even the 735CM's, for that matter. Even though they are lower-lofted than the 735CM's, the 735'x are muscle backs in the scoring irons and have a higher COG for a more pentrating flight, in my opinion.

If you really want to get your ballflight down, I'd look at the Titleist 680's, as per one of the other posts. Or, beyond that, a set of 681's, which were built to Tiger's specs, when he was playing Titleist. My understanding is that the 681's reference his scoring average at the time, 68.1 These look like 680's, but have an even higher muscle back. They launch missiles. They're not that easy to find, but there is a local shop near me that has a brand new set for sale. I've been considering it, but think it might be a little too much club for me.

The MP30's were known for being low-launching clubs, esp. in the long irons. It might be hard to find a set of cavity backs that would mimic the MP30's trajectory. Low-launch is opposite of the way the market is moving. You would probably have to look at a set of musclebacks, like the 680's.

Another option you might consider is looking at a set of X200's, maybe even soft-stepped, if you're currently playing X100's. I'd try it in one club first, obviously. A local clubmaker, whom I respect, told me that they're really not much stiffer than the X100's (similar to diff. between S300 and S400), but have a distinctively different feel and kickpoint. Bottom line is, if you can play X100's, you can probably play X200's, esp. if you soft-step. Plus, I can guarantee you'd be the only one in your foursome to be playing X200's. So you'd have that going for you . . .

Hope that helps.

I hit the 32s, 60s and Titleist 695 CB at a recent demo day and can say that I hated the Titleist clubs compared with Mizuno. There just is no comparison to me. The Titleist clubs just felt so hard, even on perfectly struck shots. And the trajectory wasn't that much lower -- at least not enough to warrant them over Mizuno.

I kind of had the same concern with the MP-60s, though I loved them overall. I'd like a little lower trajectory. What would a different shaft do to help keep the ball lower? Mizuno offers several different "stock" shafts to choose from.

Actually, I was just about to chime in on the shaft idea. IMHO, You might have better results if you research on shafts that have a high kickpoint. It will certainly bring down your ball flight and also have the additional benefit of giving more direct feedback. shaft flex will also have bearing in here. It will have to be a perfect marriage between the 2 in order for you to find the one that is right for you.

Well its funny you mentioned the Project X shafts because I made up my mind on my irons and I decieded to get the Mp-32 with project X shafts. It only lowerd the flight a small amount but there is no ballooning at all. These shafts produce a penetrating trajectory. The biggest surprise was the fact I noticed no extra forgiveness in the Mp-60's over the Mp-32's yet both were far far more forgiving then the mp-30's I was coming from. I am really excited to get these clubs and can't wait to see how the help improve my game.

Thanks for all the help,
