Mizuno MP-27

Has anybody tried Mizuno's latest irons
Being from the Philippines, we get to see some models of Mizuno that I don't commonly see in the US market. The MP-27 is a notch more forgiving than the MP-60's. In the same way that the 60's are to the 32's. It is a muscleback much like the 9 iron on the MX-23's. If I am not mistaken, they are slotted for players who are between the MX-23's and the MP-60's. I guess Mizuno is trying to cover all bases.

I got to try their 6 iron in NSPRO950 stiff flex and compared it to the MX-23 and the MP-60 in the same shafts. My findings are that the MP-27 is a very sweet hitting club. Practically as forgiving as the MX23's but with a softer "click" at impact (I guess this is the difference between 1025 and 1035 carbon steel). The MP-60's provide a similar sensation. While I enjoy the MP-60's too, I can safely say that the MP-27's are certainly more forgiving yet maintaining the look of a real "players" club. I hit half a bucket of balls with each and the results were the same throughout. The 27's are every bit as long as the 23's (which in my experience, is one of the longer irons out there). As for playability, they are not as chunky as the 23's and can be shot shaped like the 60's.

I'm hoping that some of you guys have tried it so I can see if we have the same experience with them.

rge,

Those 27's look wicked, I play and love the 23's but after a demo round with some 60's I felt those were a bit too demanding for my level of proficiency. I would love to read a detailed review of the 27's if you decide to buy them, so please consider posting your thoughts here if you get them. I'm not sure if I could justify or afford a set of the 27's for what I'd have to pay here in the US, but I'm pretty sure I'd want them! I first saw them on the site Tungsten33 mentioned in link he provided in another thread (I don't know whether to thank or curse him for that :) ). Good luck with your choice.

Hi six00imola, Yes I am very familiar with Valley Golf in Antipolo. I happen to be a member there. Maybe if you decide to come back to visit, you can let me know so we can play a round or two.

I did more investigating on the MP27, and one poster is correct, the MP-27 came ou ahead of the MP-60, It just wasn't distributed in the US.

I'm pretty torn on whether I get these or the MP-60. Being the equipment whore that I am, I am leaning towards the 60's. I don't even know why I'm doing this since the MX-23's I am currently using are serving me very well.

You guys in the US actually have better prices on the models that Mizuno sells over there. If I were to uy the 60's here, it would cost me about $900 in steel shafts We don't even have the graphite option you guys do. This is why I buy on Ebay.

I can get the 27's here for about $1000 too. If I go to Hong Kong, it is available for $800 in Graphite.

By the way here's an item that I almost bought. I actually bid on it but when I discussed with the seller about the seeming inconsistencies of his set, we agreed to dissolve the contract. It is a fake that is made in China. So you guys be careful. There are a ton of fake clubs being sold from over there and in Indonesia and Taiwan too. It was almost too good to be true and I damn near got fooled. It's a good thing I had nothing better to do than really scrutinize the pictures.

Maybe we can play "Spot the Fake" Check which features on the club make it different from the real thing. Check it out:

As pointed out by another poster these are far from "Mizuno's latest iron". I'd say they've been out for a couple years now. The 27s have quite a bit more offset than the 60s and a deeper cavity. Def. more of a game improv. iron than the 60 but still very playable for an iron that is as forgiving as it is. Similar to the TS-202. Between the 23 and 60 is a great description of the 27. IMO the 60 is forgiving enough, yet more playable, making the 27 not worth the extra $400.

I have a 3,4,and 5 iron that I occasionally throw in the bag when I'm not striking it well. They feel great like most mizuno's but if you are buying site unseen, they are definitely more game improvement than the mp60's. I don't think (but not 100% sure) the mx23's were ever wide released in japan. I think the mp27's were released about the same time over there as the mx23's were over here in the states. If you need more info on these pm tourspecgolfer over at tourspecgolf.com. chris probably has some in stock still.
