Demo day tomorrow~ help!

looking to get a 905R
We have a demo day at our range tomorrow. It's my first time going to one of these and I want to get a 905R.
I was just wondering if they will have only the stock shafts available, or if they would also have diamanas and other shafts as well. And will I be able to hit all the lofts and shafts?

I've heard that they sometimes give discounts at these events as well... Is this true?

Anything else about demo day would be appreciated~

Thanks

A good demo day will have every loft / shaft combination for you to try and any rep worth his salt will bring a launch monitor too.

Be open minded....don't buy a 905R just because you like Titleist....try all of the other clubs and give them a fair chance. You just might find that you hit another club much better.

At the last demo day I went to the Ping and Taylor Made reps both had launch monitors set up.....but the other companies would let you take one of their clubs over there to see how it matches up.

The Ping guy was really cool...he said..."hey man, I don't want you to buy a Ping if there's another club out here that's better....but just bring it over and we'll see how they compare."

I showed up thinking I wanted a new TM R7 425 but it actually had the worst results on the launch monitor. For me the G5, HiBore, and FT-3 were the best clubs out of everything....after trying out a bunch of shafts I ended up going with the Callaway....and I've never been a Callaway guy but the ball flight and launch monitor numbers didn't lie...it was the best club for my swing so I ordered it.

The Tour Edge EXOTICS drivers are HOT....longest drives I hit all day but the shafts were weak and they didn't have any options there.

Just have fun and try everything.

Oh and they will usually make you a small deal but here's my advice. Find the perfect club and ask what they're price is.

Then go to your car, get on your cell and call around. Just say "hey I'm at this demo day at ....... golf course and they quoted me a price on this driver....can you do any better than that?"

I called around and found a guy that sold it to me $50 under retail so it was worth a few phone calls.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply

I'm not limiting myself to the 905... but only Titleist, Taylormade, Mizuno, Cobra, and Sonartec are coming. I already have the r7425... I'll try the MX500, and R7460, but as of now, I'm most interested in the 905.

And from now on, I really want to buy equipment after I see the ball flight directly/in person/live before buying...

I've been club-hoing too much...

The reps around here have a lot of the stock shafts in every flex / loft combination imagineable and a launch monitor, which is good, but they didn't have any upraded (or even custom order) shafts. :)

As far as discounts, they vary by location and the sponsor who's putting it on. I went to one where they offered 30% off normal retail prices, and in addition for every $100 you spent you got a free round of golf at an upscale public course ($80 weekend rounds). Great deal. The last one I went to had zero discount, just order and deliver to your door.

If you're really serious about buying, ask around to see if the Titleist Science Van (if it still exists). It's a huge van with launch monitors and club fitters with EVERY shaft clubhead combination imagineable. They'll fit you and they've got everything blacked out and in code so you don't know what you're hitting. They tell you at the end. It's an awesome deal and it's usually open to the public (although they only host it at private clubs so the public rarely knows about them) ask the reps if it's coming around any time soon. It's hands down the best way to get fit for a Titleist driver.

One more demo day tip, be assertive and hit what YOU want to hit. Those clubs are there to be hit. If you wait for the reps to cater to you, you'll never get to hit anything. Also, a lot of people take 25-30 swings with a driver, don't be one of those guys. Hit a couple of good swings and then pass it on to the next guy.

Hope that helps.

Just came back and had a great time...

I reconfirmed that the old but wise "it's the indian, not the arrow" phrase to be true haha...

I tried all the 905Rs w/ every shaft and was push slicing everything. I think it's too much tension in my hands leading to an open face...

R7460 and MX500 were a bit disappointing. The 425 felt hotter and more maneuverable than the 460, while the MX500's head weight was just too light.

But my iron shots were on today.

I really liked all the Mizuno irons I tried (32, 37, 60).

I have a Titleist 660 w/ PX 5.5 on the way. I was a little anxious b/c I never tried a PX. So I got to try a 735SS w/ PX6.0, and it felt great and the flight was much more manageable than the DGS300s.

Can't wait to get them new babies...

Anyone interested in my Gauge Design MB2s w/ Nippon 1150 stiffs by the way?

First let me state that just because a Rep is not there with 50 different shaft combinations and every loft imaginable doesn't me he isn't "worth his salt." Titleist has 54 different shaft options, plus 3 different flexes and all the loft combos would be 810 drivers. I don't think that is realistic. Second with some of the little thieves on the driving range (mainly at public or big box events) why would a rep want to bring a stable load of $600-$800 drivers?? Secondly when you have five demo days going on at the same time, sometimes it is necessary to consolidate equipment among different demo days. In addition not every Rep should bring a launch monitor. Most of the launch monitors in use today are Vectors. Vectors do not work well when they are near another launch monitor because it throws the sound capture off, and nor do most facilities have enough power for that many LM's. It also promotes the usual "Long Drive Contest" among the beer swilling guys and their buddies that just finished 18. Things get broken. Typical demo days are a free for all that range junkies attend to beat free balls.

Finally the Science Van no longer exists. It was done away with, the new Fittingworks program has taken its place. Besides the Science Van usually only carried their Stock Shafts in loft and shaft combos anyway. The never carried all the super exotic upgrades.

I didn't mean to go off on a tangent there, but I think some of you expect too much from your reps and demo days.

A golf club rep's job is to sell golf clubs, not worry about breakage or theft. A demo day is a chance for the reps to get their products out to the customer and give them a chance to see what their product has to offer.

Maybe it's the same dissillusionment you've experienced, but a lot of reps these days just don't seem to care about their customers. They just sit back and watch people hit and talk amongst themselves and don't offer any information about their product which is their job. Callaway TaylorMade and Bridgestone are the only OEM's in my area who's reps seem not to have succumed to this pressure. They may be different in your area.

Of course a rep can't handle every single shaft and loft option. My point is that they should have several. Just having a 9.5* 905R with an NV65 S isn't going to fit everyone. Also, if a company is serious about fitting their customers, wouldn't it make sense to have a vector. If they really want to, they can find a way around the power and sound issues you've mentioned. I've seen it work before. :)

As for the science van not carrying super exotics, I'd call the Diamana 73 and Zcom TW 74 exotics.

As personally as you've taken these comments I hope you're a rep . . .
