Golf around the Queen Creek area?

My parents are thinking of buying a winter home in the Queen Creek area. I realize this part of Phoenix isn't golf central but what are some of the better golf courses in the area?

Depends how far in Queen Creek.

There are two nice private courses: Seville and Encanterra. Las Colinas is a short course, but not bad.

Trilogy at Power Ranch is north, Poston Butte is towards Florence, a bit far from the west end of QC, but not too far from the east end.

Johnson Ranch the same as above.

Then you have a reasonable travel to the Chandler, Gilbert Courses: Ocotillo, Western Skies, Superstition, Bear Creek.

If they want a membership, then the Private courses are outstanding! If they don't want to travel too much, then don't buy to far southeast QC.

With the house prices now, Gilbert is just as good a place to buy and closer to the golf.

But in general the East Valley has just as many nice courses within a 20-30 min drive of QC.

Queen Creek is a steal right now for housing. but it's out there. There are some courses near there, and Johnson Ranch being a fav of mine in QC they have a nice back nine and it's reasonably priced.

Encanterra as stated is private. But if you listen to the speil for the homes around there you can play a free round. Apparently they have ProV1 range balls.

But great golf isn't far away.

Maricopa> Queen Creek, in my opinion.

Queen Creek is so damn far out there! Ive heard you can pick up a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house with a pool for under 75 grand right now. @ courses in Maricopa as well. The Duke and Southern dunes, both great tracks.

Queen Creek is actually blessed with a lot of value golf although a bit far flung.

Trilogy at Power Ranch is probably the nicest of the QC publics. It is a real estate course, but not too cramped. Good variety of holes, typically well conditioned and moderately priced.

Las Colinas is not a long course HOWEVER, the smallish, push up greens put a premium on accuracy.

Not mentioned is a course called The Links at Queen Creek. This course seems to cater to the snowbirds as it is <6000 yards, and only open in the winter (Oct-April).

Encanterra is a brand new upscale gated community with private country club that opened just about the time the real estate market tanked. Needless to say, they are struggling. From my view, the business model is questionable. "Upscale" and Queen Creek just don't fit together. If the debt load wasn't big enough, they are building an 80,000 sq ft clubhouse with all the amenities including fitness center, etc... The Tom Lehman designed golf course however, has received fairly strong reviews and I hope to try and get out there next year. My understanding is it is not to difficult to get on to, but you may have to endure a sales presentation.

Seville is another private, a forgettable design routed through the housing corridors.

Some other publics not mentioned, not in Queen Creek proper, but a short drive north:
- Toka Sticks, the Williams Field AFB course, flat, tree-lined, traditional layout, maintained similar to a typical muni ("scruffy") but a very good value.
- Apache Creek - (Ironwood and US60) an OK shortish desert target layout, fun to play, also inexpensive.
