Ultimate Iron set!!!! future holy grails!
Hi, I'm 14 handicap, where my chipping and putting is the culprit. My driver ss is 115-120mph and my iron is about 90mph. I am now using a 690cb with project-x 5.5 shafts. These FEEL fantastic! And living in singapore the high bounce and the tapered leading edge in the irons really help with the damp soil here. I really like the sound, trajectory, and the feel of the clubs when hit at the SWEETSPOT. Here's the problem....I'm a weekend golfer and I just want easier irons...

I'm looking at

1) Mizuno Mx-23 (but these have been around for ages and still cost a bomb!)
2) Mizuno Mx-900
3) Callaway x-tour
3) Callaway fusion
4) Taylormade r7 xd

Help me decide please! I'm greatly appreciate some feedbacks~

thanx alot~

I am very familiar with the MX-23's and can highly recommend them. They have been around since mid 04 if I'm not mistaken. This however is immaterial if the club works for you.

I have also used the Fusions from time to time and am pleased with these too. I find them very forgiving and long. They also have a nice look at address but I find the topline a little to thick for me. But that's just me.

Have used the 900's for a round and they are indeed very forgiving.. These are forged clubs but not as "buttery" as other mizunos.

It seems that your choice of clubs are all good. I think the 23's are the cheapest in your list. I'm an 11 h'cap and from your list, I would still go with the 23's. I would recommend that you try the MP-60's though. You just might like them over the others in your list. They are priced close to the 900's

R7 XDs. Very forgiving and very VERY far. I own a set. They are at about a club longer than the rest of my irons. Mizzy MX-23s feel good. I own MX-900s and wasn't impressed. I vote for TM. You will be VERY happy with these clubs.

115 -120 is fast, a lot of tour guys aren't putting up numbers like that!

Let me clarify that they can, so can I and so can most anyone... but they can't necessarily control it. Maybe you don't have a problem with control, but judging from your decription it sounds like you do. The 690's are a good iron. Take the money you were going to spend on the irons and buy a couple of lessons. As the Titleist Rep said as he tried to talk me into a set of muscle backs, "Every club is forgiving if you hit it in the middle all of the time."

now if you are going to twist my arm into a choice, I say go with the whichever callaways set-up for you the best. My father plays the X-12's and they are stupid easy.

Haha well actually I am taking lessons, and 115-120 is about 80% of my full uncontrolled swing. The carry is usually like 300yrds. I just can't replicate that with my iron swing cause i have big shoulders and I can't see the damn ball if i turn my body too much...I'm also not that flexible...

ANYWAYS...

I'm just in search for irons that has a larger sweetspot with great feel. The 690 is not very forgiving but yea it has indeed taught me to hit down to the ball rather than to scoop it. I've started playing 8 months ago so I had no idea whats what in equiptment. Now i do and now i know there are easier irons to play with than the 690.

HENCE

the choice above...anyone else wanna comment?

thanx~

Haha...honestly I already have the taylormade r7 xd irons. I bought them thinking I'll use them. I got another post "project x + super game improvement= bliss" or something like that which i talk about how i love the shafts but hate the iron head. The problem now is that the xd irons are parallel tipped...and my current PX is tapered....

The light shafts on the xd's aren't good for me... Maybe i'll go with the cleveland cg4's those felt really really soft. I'm checking to see if the fusions and the cg4's are tapered or not...But in anycase this new info completely rules out the xd's...now i gotta find a way to sell these things!
