anyone try shafting their game improvement Irons with px?
Hi, I just love these shafts, and using 5.5 (I really think i need 6.0 with my 90mph ss) But it's the head i'm having trouble with (titelist 690cb) I'm a weekend golfer and i really need easier irons but noticed that all the so called "game improvement" to "Super game improvement" irons have real soft (nspro) to graphite shafts and most manufacturers don't offer px shafts options...

Now I'm wondering if it's a great sin to use these SGI irons with px shafts... I've never seen anyone do it. And I'm seriously considering reshafting The Taylormade r7 XD irons or mizuno mx-900 with them.

So...will this finally be the perfect irons or will the shaft completely destroy the game improvement funtion of the club head?!?

Please let me know if anyone tried this... I know u have joe~ any feedbacks?

Getting a mixed result after reshafting my Fusions with PX 6.0s. I hit the stock Nippon shafted Fusions a ton, but the problem was that ball flight was really high and I struggled with them in the wind. On harder swings, draws sometimes became hooks. :) Figured the PX was a nice solution. The ballflight is still a little high, the hooks are gone, and they go pretty straight. Unfortunately, I am now about 2 clubs (or more) short!!!!!! :) Just shy of 100 mph clubhead speed with a 5 iron and I can only hit it about 170-175 yards at best. I guess I have to play a few more rounds with them, but I am pretty dissappointed. I feel like a I ruined a great set of irons. :beee:

That's interesting because most people seem to gain distance with the PX's. Your ss may have come down some due to the increase in the weight of the shaft. I'm not sure how wild the Nippons got for you, but control is definitely more important in the irons than distance, IMHO.

I have Project X shafts in my set of Cleveland CG4 Tour irons (awesome combo), but I also have them in my set of KZG OC-X1 irons, which are definitely "game-improvement" heads. I think they feel great. They are great shafts in alot of different kinds of heads. You could always try one shaft in a club and see how you liked it before doing the whole set.

I was thinking about putting them in my Ping i5 irons, but I have a set of T.T. Black Gold shafts that might go in them instead.

I agree with you on the accuracy part. Straight is good. I just have to get used to the idea of going from hitting 6 iron confidently from 185-190 yds, to pulling a 4 iron and hoping it gets there. :) Gotta admit that the ego is a little bruised and the gap between my 3 iron and hybrid just got a whole lot bigger. I am also wondering if Cally may have matched the orignal set-up just right.

I definitely know what you mean.....I just picked up a split set of MP32/60s with Project X's....I sure I hope I don't lose 2 clubs worth of distance.... :) That would NOT be a good thing for my struggling game right now.

Do you consider yourself more of a hitter or swinger? I think that makes a big difference in the performance of these shafts; the more you load the club, the better.

Hi, Yea I've looked into the taylormade r7 xd irons, but turns out that they are parallel tipped, and my titleist 690cb's are tapered. In fact I'm hearing almost all the non forged irons are parallel tipped...Anyone know if the callaway fusions are parallel or not? Mizuno's are all tapered tip except the mx-17 which is non forged.

Also I've definately gained 15yards with the PX 5.5. I used to play the NSpro stiffs on the taylormade tp irons...Maybe it's the crappy iron heads?

I think I might go for the CG4's...anyone know whether these are parallel or taperd?

MKB3245 - I have never had my swing speed measured, but my carry with the Ping I5 5-iron is 185 yards. I usually play PX5.5, but the I-5s I picked up had the PX 6.0s already in them and decided to get give them a go and was really surprised on how well I hit them.

Don't know if it makes much difference, but I am more of a hitter than a smooth swinger and don't take much of a divit.
