E6! WTF

I have a 540xd TP that was playing an inch and a half short of standard. It was also playing to a D0 swing weight. So I had my clubmarker take the club up to 45". Now it is at and E6 swingweight.

I took it to the range and it absolutely destroyed my swing. After I gave up trying to hit it consistently I found I couldn't hit anything else in my bag.

Is there anything I can do to fix this, or should I just get rid of the extention?

Also the butt of the grip feels really soft. I can feel the butt of the grip bending in my palm as I swing. Is inherent of the extention or grip... its a GP New Decade.

Thanks..

D0 to E6 with an inch & 1/2 extension??? How'd he do that??? Or better yet, why??? Also something wrong if the butt end of the grip isn't consistent with the rest of the grip, even with the extension!

I hope you didn't pay a lot for the work!

A 1.5" extension should have taken it up to D9, E0 at most (1/2" = 3 SW points). If it's honestly E6 I don't care how big you are, a 45" driver at that weight should have been swinging you. He had to have added some weight to the head.

Get your money back and tell him to reverse what he did. Go find another clubmaker and get it done right.

Or better yet, do it yourself. :)

Ok so despite the warnings from you guys I went back to this guy atleast to get the grip fixed and see what was really up with this club.

So the first thing he did was take the grip off, then he put the club on the scale and said that with the grip it was a C6! WFT he told me yesterday that it was an E6! He said that with the grip not being fully inserted it must have thrown things off. I think something throwing this guy off, must be smelling to much of that solvent or something!

So that means that my diver was at a C0 or so before the extension.... hwo the heck was I hitting it?

I had him put the grip back on and bring the swing weight up to D4. To tell you the truth the driver feels a lot better. I have no freaking clue what is going on with it. I have not hit it yet, but it is starting to feel like a driver again.

I think, if all this is true, that the reason it felt heavy is because I wasn't able to distingish the head weight in the swing.

Uhg! well if one thing comes out of this it is that I am going to start working on my own gear. I am goign to slowly gather the necessary tools as I need them, so first I'm going to find me a cheap swingweight scale and go from there.

Doing your own club work is EASY and really doesn't require any special tools. You've probably got 90% of what you need laying around your house.

I regrip all my clubs without a vise, and haven't had an improperly gripped club yet. It makes me wonder just how these clubmakers who can't grip clubs correclty even with special gripping stations stay in business. :)

You can easily reshaft irons without a vise as well, all you need is a torch, an oven mitt, some epoxy and ferrules.

Just looking at my little club work tool box this is what i have:

Heat Gun

Butane Torch

Epoxy (tour van set for graphite and long cure for irons)

Sandpaper

Utility knife (hook blade for grips)

Grip solvent in a spray bottle

2" double sided tape

Shafting beads

Pipe cutter (although I use the chop saw exclusively now)

Graphite shafting can be a little tricky (especially if you want to resuse the graphite), then a puller is needed.

Once you get started doing your own clubwork, you'll be shocked as to why you ever paid someone else to do it!
