Putter Cut-down

Will this work

I have an old Ping Answer 4

I like how it sets up and the feel at contact but I do think its a bit too light

I also find myself always gripping down quite far

Could I kill two birds with one stone by simply cutting it down an inch or an inch and a half and have a shorter putter whose heads feels heavier?

Would I need to reshaft or just hack it off and regrip?

If you cut it down, you will make it feel lighter, not heavier since you're keeping the head weight the same with a shorter shaft. If you play it longer it will feel heavier.

 

In fact, depending on how much you cut down, you might need to get quite a bit of weight in the head to get it to feel like it does now.

 

However, it sounds like you like the feel of hte putter now gripping down on it.

 

If that's the case, then by all means go ahead and remove the grip, and get a chop saw or a pipe cutter and cut off the shaft. A chop saw is a better bet because it deburrs the end as it cuts. With the pipe cutter you might need to take a file to it to get the sharp edge off.

 

Regrip and you're good to go.
