Shortening Shaft Question

I currently have a 45" Regular AJ Tech shaft in my Aurora (AGT) driver. AJ Tech recommends their Regular shaft for swing speeds of 90-100mph. My current swing speed is 96-98mph. This driver is by far the longest driver I have ever witnessed, but is very difficult to turn over compared to my past TaylorMade and is slightly less forgiving. If I wanted to experiment in shortening this shaft to 43.5 - 44", for accuracy purposes, what would be the proper way to do it?

When it comes to shortening shaft, you are messing around w/ your timing and tempo of your swing, those 2 i've mention could be good or bad. if you achieved a perfect timing and tempo, obviously it's your gain.

 

Try to put lead tape first on the head and try it out by grip down to your desire lenght, see if you do like it and give you a better timing and tempo for at least better control, then you can proceed. I know for that much lenght, you'll need a lot of tape, that is why try it 1/4"or 1/2"at a time.

 

Adding rat glue/hot melt inside the head to much is not always a good thing. Hot Summer day inside the car trunk can reach 180* which will liquify the hot melt and it will fall to a place how the driver head laid at that time. This is why some people say their driver become inconsistent in perfomance.

 

The other aspect cutting down a shaft is you need to understand where are you gonna cut it without messing up the flex.

 

Tipping the shaft to lenght and adjust the swing weight back is the right thing to get the number on the cpm fall to the same slope, however tipping is not always the right thing also for a shaft, because by tipping you are changing the charracter of the shaft and kick point. Yes you may achieve the right number of stiffness, but it will never play the same.
