The RIM GOLF CLUB

Recommended Posts

UPDATE: MY PICS LINK POSTED 2/14/10!!
Hey fellas,

The Rim Golf Club in Payson has now opened a few tee times up to the public. Right now the times are $50.

It has been in the 50's which is fine, except the weather(snow) is supposed to be bad over the next few weeks.

However, if they keep the times open moving forward, this is a treat!

If anyone has any interest of heading up to play some day, let me know....we can leave early and get 36 in.

I have never had a chance to play, but have stopped for a visit a few times and know a few folks who have played and they have had nothing but the utmost praise for the course. Take a look at the pics on the web and your mouth will drop!

I got to play the Rim Club in October. It is a very interesting and challenging course that is set upon some pretty severe land for golf. Lots of downhill and uphill holes routed through some narrow canyons, There are several long, uphill holes that are truly ball busters. Great conditioning and stunning scenery tend to flavor the round. Given the elevation changes, the Rim would be a pretty difficult walk, but all-in-all, pretty fun and a recommended play even if I don't think it would be the kind of course I would want to play on a regular basis.

I took a few pics and will try to post them when I have a chance.

Payson weather in the winter probably allows golf in between the winter storms, but I would be pretty certain the course will be soggy and very likely cart path only. Wait until mid-March and head up there. It is only 90 minutes for me in the east valley.

My buddy just mentioned this to me the other day and I think we're gonna head up there for the weekend with our women once the weather breaks. He said $50 is a steal for this track assuming the conditions havent deteriorated since its move to public play. Let me know if you guys decide to head up there on a weekend or even a weekday. I wouldnt mind making the drive on a Monday.

The course looks like its pretty damn tough! Cant wait to get up there, do the rates drop or go up in the summer?
[/quote]No idea on the rates.

But... it can be quite a difficult course, there are definitely some holes that are much easier once you have played them once though.

Such an awesome course though, definitely worth the trip.

Well...all I gotta say is wow! What agreat course. The practice facilities were worth the trip up. ProV1 & ProV1x on the range, putting green(stacked around the green) and chipping green.

The staff was awesome, nothing like you would think from a private facility. One of the pros greeted me and told me about the course. He came out to the 9th hole to see how I was doing and recommended a lunch item...awesome chicken caesar wrap!!!

There was coolers full of water throughout the course. Hell, the bathrooms were nicer than my own at home! LOL!

I ended up playing 27 holes(played the back nine a second time for just cart fee).

The grass of course is dormant but that did not affect the play. The fairways, green and tee boxes were super nice. The greens were relatively fast but held iron shots perfectly.

The holes had so much variety and had so many great shots I have hard time determining my favorite hole.

The only bad thing for the day is the guy they matched me up...theres a picture of him in one of the shots. He wore a wife beater and spent the round getting stoned! LOL! He also felt the need to play from the tips with me. He could not hit the ball over ANY of the carries. I don't think he broke 160!!!!

Anyways...I finished with a 79 which I am kinda happy with...except for the fact that I had 2 doubles and a triple. It is definitely important to play a round to know where to hit some of the shots off the tee and how to play the shot to the greens.

This course in its current condition is probably just as good as anything in town right now. Just not as green.

I talked with the pro a bit and he said they are going to keep public tee times moving forward, but as summer comes around the price will go up...of course because it is cooler up there. But at 60+ degrees today, with a slight breeze...you cannot beat a day like today!
