Should I have said nothing?

Went to my favorite local club repair pro with a Ping Tisi driver for a reshaft with a Accra Pro 50.

This guy is one of the best in town and has always done me right.

Upon receiving the club back I noticed epoxy slopped although minor on the very top of the hosel where the shaft enters the hosel (like it oozed out of the top).

I made mention of it to him and he said that's common they want to make sure there is enough epoxy holding the shaft to the club because the hosel is plastic, so I took the club for a test spin and wow my new favorite club!

But the top, (and mind you you have to focus in on that area to see it) looks like a amateur did the work!

So after much consideration I brought it back to him to redo or whatever!

I had Ping club repair do my fairway Tisi's last week and not even a spot of epoxy on the top!

And my repair guy charged me the same money as Ping a 160 bucks!

Am I wound to tight or am I right? :)

I don't blame you. I am like that too and I hate that about myself. I like all of my equipment to be perfect. Thats why I do all of my own reshafting and gripping work now. I can make it perfect. Im so goofy that I have pulled the same shaft twice because the graphics were not exactly perfect.

Damn my OCD with golf equipment is crazy :) :beee:

I just feel if Ping can do it perfect without so much as a smudge then a huge custom club fitter/pro shop with their own tour van that does repairs at pro events for hire should be able to quality control their work.

The problem is they look at you like you have a screw loose when you point something like that out to them.

I mean if their going to do it for free then cool room for error but geez $160 dollars!

Then they gave me the wrong pureing report, this might be my last time in their shop.

To some extent, this is why I learned how to do the work myself. The day I watched a young fellow at the local GolfGalaxy walk toward my Speeder757 shafted R510 DF with a propane torch burning just about wide open, I pretty much had enough.

That's not to say that there aren't plenty of competent folks out there doing repair work. I've had quality work done by a local repair person in my hometown, but it can be difficult to find people who take the time to do things right.

I've seen some pretty sloppy work from some of the equipment vans that follow the various tours around, but to be honest, I don't think many of the pros care too much about it. I've seen clubs sitting up to cure with globs of epoxy around the ferrule/hosel, but in most cases, they turn that excess epoxy off when they turn down the ferrule. For other types of hosel configurations, I'm not sure what they do other than wipe it off a little better before it starts to harden.

The bottom line is that no QC person in their right mind would let an OEM club go out the door in that shape, and I don't think a reputable club technician should either. But if it's on the clubhead itself, it will be hard to get off without damaging the finish.

No that was shaft, puring, grip, and install.

Unless the glob really bothers you, I would not have it redone as they'll likely try to re-use the same shaft. I would negotiate some kind of credit because there should be no epoxy residue and certainly not for $160 from a reputable shop. If you reason with them, they should be willing to do something. Frankly I'd be embarrassed and would redo it with a new shaft. You paid top $ and should receive top service.

As far as the glob goes...aftermarket adapters don't always fit perfectly so when you lean the club against the wall to cure, the adapter moves slightly and forces out the epoxy. Normally you like to check these things after about an hour, when the epoxy is starting to harden and wipe the excess. Easy step to miss but no excuses.....that is their job.

Everybody makes a mistake, but a good clubfitter or craftsman who takes pride in his work should just clean up the epoxy without hesitation IMO. If it bothers you, you did the right thing. I would have done the same especially for $160.

What kind of issues if any would result in him reusing the same shaft?

Get this crap after finally finding time to read the pure report I find it is not even for the shaft he installed!

Wrong shaft, wrong flex this is B.S.!

Furthermore after leaving a phone message and an email to him regarding this situation still no reply!

I may call Accra and rat him out (after all he is suppose to be the number 1 accra dealer in Chicago)

as well as dispute this crap with my credit card company. This s**t pisses me off!
