Guys golf trip/pre-wedding trip

Sooooooo, Im trying to put together a little golf trip in April and Im trying to figure out the best option: Head up north for the weekend and play prescott on friday, then 36 in prescott on Sat then 18 on Sunday in sedona or flagstaff, then head home. Or Im thinking Tucson might be a better option? Less driving and seems like a better selection of golf courses, but I was hoping to get away from the desert styled courses. What do you guys think? The courses in Sedona seem a little steep, and I'll be playing there again in October for my wedding, but Prescott has some nice tracks and clubs that Ive wanted to play for a while now. Prescott also has Whisky Row. Any ideas or insight would be appreciated on this. As far as the dates, we'd probably head out of town on thursday night, April 15th and get back that Sunday night, the 18th.

I havent really made solid plans with my golf buddies (they all post here anyways) but anyone who wants to tag along for the golf, feel free.

Non desert courses in Tucson maybe tough to find. You can always do Tucson National and the El Conquistador Courses, not the one by the hotel just south of it. Also on that side of town you have the Saddlebrooke tracks, which are desertish, and while your there The Ritz Carlton, is nice but desert. Whisky Row is tough to beat though I will give you that, I have played a few of the prescott tracks and they are nice. If you dont mind the college crowd we have 4th ave. Which seeing how you are getting married the uofa girls running around in next to nothing maybe a bonusman_in_love.gif . Where were you lookin to play up north? And where have you played down in tucson?

I was looking to play Stoneridge and Talking Rock up in Prescott, and then 7 canyons in Sedona or Oak Creek Country Club/Sedona golf Resort(the better of the two?) I spoke with the head pro at my course and he said he can get me on to 7 canyons, but its like $125 which is way more than I'd usually pay, but what the hell? It's the #2 track in the state and a memorable weekend. I'd also really like to get up to Williams and play Elephant Rock, Ive had that on my list for awhile now.

Ive never played in Tucson before, but it just seems the same as PHX, you know what I mean?

Do you have any suggestions as far as places to play?

If you dont mind paying for it 7 canyons is freaking amazing. One of the guys that I play mens league baseball with is a member up there. That will be worth the trip right there. If I remember the card says close to 7k but it Sedona and the ball flys really well up there. Stoneridge I think is 50 bucks right now cool course its linkish, I believe its a SunCor property and they are a know for good tracks. If I were you and this is just me. Play up north now. But before you get married come down and play a round at the Ritz Carlton in Tucson. It is one of the prettiest courses in the state. Maybe during the summer it will run ya 65 bucks with a cart. But the courses you mentioned are great courses. Just gotta be willing to pay for 7 canyons. But what they heck you arent married yet! Tucson has some nice courses if you ever come down this way let me know

Mark,

You are right - Tucson is very much like Phoenix in terms of the golf. A few old courses with a more traditional feel, but most are of the desert/target variety.

I like Prescott for a golf getaway. Talking Rock can now be accessed and would be recommended. I really like the Antelope Hills muni, 36 holes and inexpensive: The 50+ year old North course is a traditional tree-lined all grass course with some interesting elevation changes and wonderful mature greens. the newer South course is more open "links-style" and is ok.

You can't overlook the Whiskey Row attraction! (stay in town so you don't have to drive!)

Then up to Sedona, Seven Canyons should not be missed.

As for Flagstaff, public access is crap (Continental CC), but with the economy sputtering, some privates may be opening for public play - check into Flagstaff Ranch and Pine Canyon.

And the little bit of extra drive (north vs. south) is hardly worth considering.

Good info there Tom, I was wondering how Antelope was, especially since you know Im a fan of traditional layouts with lots of trees. I'd really like to play 7 Canyons, I just don't know if I could enjoy it knowing how much it costs.

Have you played Stoneridge?

I have not played it. Have received mixed reviews so I should see it for myself. One of these days...

For sure I will play Talking Rock this spring, it is now on the OB Sports/Longbow Flightcard.

I should also mention, golf conditions in Flagstaff in April would be iffy. +2000 ft of elevation above Prescott/Sedona.

Speaking of pre-wedding trip... you seen "The Hangover?" ha ha watch it with your fiance.

From what a member at Ahwatukee sent me:

Here’s the skinny on golfing in the Prescott area:

You can do a “Stay & Play” at the Hassayampa Country Club. If you’re interested you can E-mail Jan Lawler at "][email protected], and she’ll give you all the info. It IS a beautiful course!!

Aside from Hassayampa.....

In order of what the guys up there think of the courses:

Antelope Hills – North

Antelope Hills – South

Stoneridge

Prescott Country Club

7 canyons would be incredible but I just found out Im getting laid off on April 4th, so I dont think I can swing $125-150 for golf now :(
