2000 Titleist 975F fairway Woods

Anyone still using this club? Compare to new woods.
Anyone still using this old beauty, I had one back then and remember good things about it. How does it compare to the more modern Titleist fairway woods?

I posted three years ago that although a long time Titleist fan and predisposed to liking Titleist clubs, Titleist lost me with the terrible 975f generation of fairway woods (thru bore and then the blind bore version). I thought they were truly badly designed hook machines. As I recall, people got fired over the design mistakes. At that time, I switched to Sonartecs. I now play a Titleist 906 3-wood and a 585 19* hybrid. My next fairway woods and hybrid will likely be Titleist 909s. I have no fond memories of 975 fairway woods AT ALL.

One of the worst off-the-rack 3woods of all time. Inconsistent shaft and the head was lifeless and heavy. Not sure I would use it even if it were reshafted with today's technology. Loved the headcover, have always loved Titleist, but after I had the 975F 3wood for a few weeks, I switched to Callaway 3woods for several years.

Oh and I do love the 904 and 909 line 3woods. Just happened to like the r9 better for the time being.

I just put the 18.5* 5 wood with a S300 in my bag for this season. I have been an avid Cleveland Launcher user but when I tried my buddies 975f I had to have one. I think the small head and heavier shaft keep in me sync and on plane better. I was looking for a 3 wood and was suprised to read this thread. Thought it was highly rated and loved.

I liked mine. I had a 13.5 and a 18.5 both with EI-70 shafts. I didn't have a hook problem with them and that was my miss at the time. They were solid clubs in my opinion.

Definitely love the 975f that I actually STILL game. I'm never kicking this thing out of my bag! I actually hated this fairway wood too, initially, because I used to hook it all the time. Then I became a better golfer, because let's face it, it's really not the club that's hitting hooks, and I hit my 13.5 degree close to 300 yards off the tee, no exaggeration, no joke. I have the graffaloy prolite shaft (maroon colored), cut down an inch. It's one of the best feeling fairway woods I've ever hit. Nice boring, low trajectory bombs... so sweet. I hit this thing more consistently than my driver.

No way. The 980F is superior in every statistical category to the 975F.

I'm glad it wasn't only me hooking those. I played a 14.5 for a long time, and it felt great (solid, similar to a 975D) and went like hell if I pured it, but it was damn near impossible to hit off the deck and was very inconsistent overall. I'd never bag one again unless my life depended on it.

Great looking club, but wow it was no fun to hit.

I played the 975Fs for several years. Had the 12.5*, 13.5* and 16.5*. If you have a hooking problem with these woods, you don't know what your doing.

Old thread, I know, but I believe the reason for the split opinion was that there was a recall of the 975f. I couldn't hit the original but I am still playing its post recall replacement.

The original 1999 Bore-Through model was horrible, if I recall correctly there were actually people at Titleist that nearly lost their jobs over that club it was so bad. You couldn't get it off the ground, unless you hit it exactly perfect. However, the second generation non bore-through 975F is a phenomenal club, I still bag one in 13.5°. Small head, mighty mighty power.

I've been through plenty of other fairway woods since playing the Titleist 975F....a few Callaway models, Adams, most recently the Titleist 910 15.5*....but end of last season I took the 13.5* back out of the ashes, played a round with it, and have remarried this one as my gamer. Small, compact, SOLID head that you can really feel throughout the swing. Plays a nice boring trajectory that doesn't balloon in wind with the old Bimatrx stiff shaft in it.

I have a Strong 15 Degree 975F Pro Trajectory with an Aldila Green NV shaft. It's Not the thru bore model; it has the blind hosel.

It's sweet off the tee. If it was a little longer, I'd use it as my driver. It's not as sweet off the turf, but I have trouble hitting a 3 Wood off the turf anyway. I find a 5 Wood or a 3 Hybrid to be much easier to hit off the turf, without giving up too much distance.

It's a sharp looking 3 Wood that feels good when you hit it sweet. I'd prefer to have one in a 4 Wood or 5 Wood loft, but the 3 Wood I have is in 95% condition and I intend to keep it. Really clean examples sell for about $30 in Jackson, MS when they come available. Half worn out examples sell for about $20.

Bringing back an old thread but I took out my old 13.5 non bore through with a DG X-100 the other day and killed it. I used this club all through high school and won some big tourneys with it. Agree with the guy who said if you can do nothing but hook these clubs then you don't know what your'e doing. Great club imo, never hit the bore through version though. Will be gaming it this weekend.

I agree with this. This was a fantastic club. I have a 16.5* 4 wood still in my backup bag with an original Graphite Design YS 9.1. I'll agree that this was NOT a forgiving club and that it required the operator to put a good solid swing on it to accomplish anything, but when struck well, wow!

The 975F was awful. The 12.5* was literally, unhittable. I think I could have had better results trying to hit my putter as a fairway wood.

The club was proof that we suck and Titleist hates us.

I had one in the early 2000s. It was non bore thru 14.5 with the old yellow and purple Proforce stiff shaft. I liked that club a lot. I don't remember when or why I got rid of it. It was a bomber off the tee for sure. One summer while angry with my driver I switched to hitting it off the tee all the time, at least in place of the driver. I don't remember it being a hook machine for me but back in those days I was a hook machine all by myself so I might not have noticed the difference. I recently picked up another 14.5 with a prolite stiff shaft in really good condition for $10. I think I'll have to throw a grip on it and give it a go.
