Deal of the century (shoes)

Recommended Posts

Okay, maybe just deal of the first half of the year
I went to Dick's Sporting Goods today and they had their top of the line $130 Walter Hagen Tour Stop shoes on clearance for $80. They're made by Etonic so I tried them on. Comfy enough.

But here's the key: Gore-Tex and lifetime waterproof warranty. So next year, if I feel like getting new shoes, I just take them in, say they are leaking, and get a new pair. How awesome is that?

They seems to have all sizes from 8-12 in black/black and white/black was it maybe white/brown. They don't seem to be on the Dick's website though.

So...apparently I'm the only one who thinks this is a good deal?

well i just wrote a long post, but some how lost it. Anyway, in a nutshell, I just wrote that don't feel bad because when i told the site about the LIFETIME GUARANTEE SMT Golf Glove, I got almost zero response as well. I guess guys want to keep buying 10-20 gloves/year, while i will never have to pay for another glove again. Whether it tears, becomes slippery, etc., I return it for a new one for free. They guarantee I probably won't even have to because it is made out of New Zealand Possum Leather, which is very comfortable and very durable. I have used the glove several times and it is still like NEW!

Actually, I found it depressing that nobody had gone to a Dick's to take a look and come back with their opinion. I wanted to make it sure it wasn't just me since shoes are a more complex beast than gloves ;)

I don't know about anyone else, but I would rather keep my self respect and integrity in-tact. I wont lie to get a new pair of shoes a year down the road.

I wouldn't have even considered this, but the employee who was shoving the shoes onto me advised me to consider it.

that reminds me of little Tommy Boy's first sale:

Tommy: Why would someone put a guarantee on a box? Hmm, very interesting.

Old Dude: Go on! I'm listening.

Tommy: Here's the way i see it, Ted. A guy puts a fancy guarantee on the box 'cause he wants you to feel all warm and toasty inside.

Old Dude: Yeah, makes a man feel good.

Tommy: Of course it does. Why shouldn't it? You figure you put that little box under your pillow at night, the Guarantee Fairy might come down and leave a quarter, am i right, Ted?

Old Dude: What's your point?

Tommy: The point is, how do you know the fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Building model airplanes" says the little fairy. Well, we're not buying it. He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. Next thing you know there's money missing off the dresser and your daughter is knocked up. I've seen it a hundred times.

Old Dude: But why do they put a guarantee on the box then?

Tommy: 'Cause they know all they sold you was a guaranteed piece of s***. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it "guaranteed", i will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customers' sake, for your daughter's sake you might wanna think about

buying a quality product from me.

So...you're saying that Etonic makes trash shoes and I should buy FootJoy? ;)

No, I just like that movie. Coincidentally, each of the five pairs of golf shoes I've owned have been FootJoys. I know that Etonic, Dexter, Ecco, Adidas and perhaps even Nike all make very fine products. However I wear extra-wide...and none of those manufacturers have ever fit very well. Good luck with your new shoes...but keep in mind...they wouldn't offer the warranty if they didn't expect to make money.

Keep in mind that the lifetime warranty is as long they feel like! Usually have some type of fine print associated.

example. I bought a watch battery for $18.00 and includes lifetime of free batteries. I figured good national chain, should be in a computer system that works anywhere in the nation. Catch is, you have to have the original receipt for them to honor it. You loose it, your toast. I have learned to read the fine print on all "lifetime" warranties.

My truck came with a free limited "100,000 mile power train warranty"....sounds good until you read that every service must be documented with certified mileage...miss one oil change by 100 miles, they can choose to void the warranty.

But where in the movie is the line, "I can get a good look at a T-Bone steak by sticking my head up a Bulls' Word not allowed, but I'd rather take my butcher's word for it"?

Funny stuff.

There is no fine print for the SMT gloves...I know some guys who replaced their's after a LONG time of use and had no issues replacing their's. The guy I got mine from said there is no fine print and no catch. The gloves just last a really really long time, it's not like they have people replacing their gloves after 2 weeks of use. There have been other members on a couple other golf forum sites who raved about the SMT glove performance as well, but no one on this site has because they may not have tried it yet...
