Thoughts on launch angle/flex

I'm purchasing an R7 425 TP and would like some advice on loft and shaft.

Previously played an R7 TP at 8.5* and Fuji 757 Stiff (tipped 1/2"). Trajectory was nice and could have gone to an XStiff. Currently playing a Bridgestone J33R 460 8.5* with GD PM702 Stiff (tipped 1/2"). This shaft feels a little light for me at 70 grams. Also still fight a slightly too high ball flight (i.e., 14-15 degrees), though low spin.

My SS is about 115 with a fast tempo and quick transition. I sweep up on the ball and tend to fight a high ballflight. Also been working out with a golf-specific trainer for a month. Have seen strength improve and expect SS to increase further.

Was thinking about ordering the 425 TP in an 8.5* with the 75 gram shaft, either X-Stiff or Stiff. But can't find too much info on how this head/shaft compares to the 425TP/757 in trajectory and overall stiffness. Does it launch the same/higher? Does it play softer than the Fuji 757?

Any recommendations?

I just hit all the new TM stuff at a demo day. I have to say I wasnt very impressed. In fact, the only club I actually liked was exactly the one you are talking about. It was the R7 TP with Rombax shaft in 75 grams stiff. I used to play the old R7 with fuji 757 stiff myself, so had a good base.

 

First the good news. Well, the shaft loads OK and the club head feels OK through the ball. It launches fairly low, even with the screws at the back to increase lanuch angle and spin. I tried the 9.5 and would've been happy to go to 10.5 a well.

 

However, none of the configurations were as long as my Ping G2 with speeder 757 stiff! I have to say I cant imagine a better driver shaft than that. Having tried everything, it is good to know that the driver I am playing can still kick it with all the new technology. Like many have said, its all about higher launch, lower spin. If you can find a shaft that loads nicely and gives you the right numbers, it doesnt really matter what brand you play.

 

Drivers are all about confidence, so dont spend all that money until you have actually hit loads of balls on a launch monitor and really feel good standing over the ball on that par 5 with drive over water.

Hi, hope I can help you out. I just recently went from R7 tp speeder 757 stiff to a 425 tp 65 rombax stiff. both 9.5. Straight away you will feel that the rombax is a lot smoother than the speeder. The rombax feels like it plays softer than its flex OR the speeder feels like it is stiffer than its flex. Either way, I thought that I would hook the hell out of the Rombax because it felt whippy. I was sure suprised with it, at worst a strong draw, but everything just wanted to go high and straight.

 

Distance is about the same with either club BUT you have to work alot harder on the R7 with speeder 757 to get the same results as the 425 Rombax.

 

Did this help, my opinion is that it is certainly a worthwhile upgrade. I had to get the new 425 with Rombax, so I could match it up with its little brother the R7 steel tour rombax 75 (awesome)!!!!! ;)
