Both are good irons, but for both to have the "tour" name, they both are fairly clunky. If you're going for the small, traditonal head size w/ forgivness, try something along the lines of Mizuno MP 60. Perhaps even a set of older Titleist 704's.

But if you are set on the Cg4T or the Xtour, I'd have to probably give the edge to the X tours. Still a blade head size, and with a thinner topline and sole (like most say), they'd be even better. You don't have to look very far to find success of the X tours.

I'd have to suggest the CG4 Tours... to my eye at least, the top line is thinner than the X-tours, and I dare say that they have a better feel. The CMM material will get marked up though.

I think if you get the proper shaft for you in the CG4 Tours, you'll like them. The stock shaft, while better than the shaft in the regular CG4 irons, is still not the greatest!

I have both irons, as well the regular CG4 irons.

Of course, if those are the two you are interested in, go demo both of them...only you know what you will ultimately like.

I have owned 15 sets of mostly "players forged cbs" and a few blades in the last 10 years. Also had X12s and MX23s.The xtours are not as thin as my Mp30s or Mac 1025Ms ,but they simply are not that bulky. Please believe me ,you can get use to there larger top. After 2 months I don,t even notice it.To me a hellav# lot better looking than the CG4s.But that is my opinion. If you take a good look at their soles they are no wider than a LOT of foeged cbs.Great irons.Best 3 & 4 iron I have ever owned.I would get a nice used set.If you don,t like them you can probably get more in resale than many others.

I was wondering if anyone has any comments on these two. I am looking for an iron with a traditional look not just a big clunky looking thing. Any suggestions would be appreciated

The X-Tour is actually quite thick on top (it has a shiny part and a satin part to make it look smaller). It's an interesting club because it's *really* small from heel-to-toe and has basically no offset. I have an X-Tour 6-iron and the feel is awesome, very high quality construction. Given the way it's configured, I would have thought it would be hard to hit straight and that didn't seem to be the case at all.

CG4 Tour also has a pretty thick topline. Did you look at the Mizuno MX-23? They're thinner than either of the ones you mentioned and are really quite awesome.

If you're just talking about looks, I think the CG2 or TaylorMade RAC LT. Thinner than that and you're in the blade-like territory with MP-32, MP-60, Titleist clubs, etc.

Lots of good stuff to try. I would defintely give the RAC LT, Mizuno MX-23, and X-Tour a serious look. My "good set" are Mizuno MP-32s, but I got a set of Cleveland CG4 as my "fat pants" which I've been wearing more lately. :-( I got these before the CG4 Tour came out after a lot of searching around for something that was easy to hit without being enormous or with a lot of offset. They've been OK, although it turns out that I just don't think I like the stock shafts very much (lightweight is good, but launch seems really high). I should have gotten the MX-23s.

I think I am going to go with the Cally's. I really like the way they look. The problem is that I can't just go out and demo any of them due to the fact of where I live. One reason that I am considering the CG4 Tours is that I can get them brand new with a brand new CG10/CG11 wedge for $399 which is $300 cheaper than in magazines. It seems like a good deal. But I like the X tours better. Any other comments

Yeah it is. The next time someone sends you a PM telling you about such a "good deal," a quick "Thank You" in return might be a nice gesture to consider. Ya think? ;)

I have had both and both are very functional. Both of my sets had DGSL shafts and I'd type that I feel that shaft makes both these sets shine. I am currently playing the satin Adams aTours and the DGSL shafts also make these irons shine. I wish you luck but in any case make sure you check with www.DiscountDansGolf.com as they are so far ahead re: prices and service it isn't even funny...
