Golf Wrx'ers Salary

Everyone seems to be buying golf equipment
Are we all trust fund kids? What's the deal? I'm always reading that people are planning to buy this or that and that their sets right now will serve as backup sets. And they still have another still for different conditions. Are we all really that rich? I personally have to pay tons of bills and really have no time to buy equipment that is only going to help with a couple extra yards.

Just curious. If yall are rich, spare me some clubs; give em here!!!

I'm probably like many of the guys here in that golf (playing and buying/selling equipment) is our primary hobby. I don't have a boat; don't hunt; don't party too much (I'm married with a 19-month old daughter); don't gamble excessively. If you only have one hobby, then it is easier to dedicate your disposable income to it.

If there's one thing I spend money on it is golf. I don't have many clubs laying around. If I want something new, I typically sell the old stuff. As mentioned earlier, rinse, dry, repeat, etc.

Like mentioned above, I flip clubs to fund my addiction.

Example, I just sold my less than a year old G2 driver on ebay for $182 plus $15 for shipping. I had a $55 balance in my PP account before the sale. Then in turn I put that money towards my new R7 460 that I bought for $299 plus $15 for shipping. Yes, I said brand new R7 460 for $299 plus shipping. This only left me with about $62 or so to boot give or take due to Paypal and Ebay fees.

This makes getting new clubs on a regular basis easy on me and the wife's nerves. This is also my only hobby except for a trip to Kansas twice a year to bird hunt.

Still trying to perfect it, but I think I just about have this down to a science. Now if I could do this more regularly, I would love to have my own Pro Shop that I could run out of my garage ;)

My husband and I actually make a pretty good living. We have a house, a boat, two motorcyles, two trucks, and three cars. We take 3 vacations a year, two being golf vacations, and spend plenty on our daughter and her tennis aspirations.

We have worked our butts off to be able to afford these things; we both didn't grow up with a lot and feel like we deserve it and earned it. ;)

I should also mention that I'm thrifty as all get out too. I look for deals and do not spend beyond my means.

To me, it's all about spending in differnet places. Myself for example.........I've never been married, never had children, so I have more disposable income to spend on Golf and other hobbies than some other people.

OTOH - I'm RIDICULOUSLY cheap on other areas of my life to compensate for this. I don't have any problem spending $150 on a high-end driver shaft, but I simply will not buy socks until there are holes in the durn things! HAHA!

good job, live well with in my means, no kids, no wife, dropped the girlfriend (can't tell you how much my average balance in my checking account went up after that). for now i spend my days working, playing golf and studying for my architectural registration exam. golf is my only vice at this time. it also doesn't hurt that most anything can be had on ebay for 1/2 price if you look hard enough and are patient. i've also started to sell off excess equipment.

No trust fund just older... ;) Have worked for the same company for 37 years. Same wife for almost as long... Kids are all grown, married and own their own homes. Only debt is one car payment.

Life is good ya just gotta put in the time.

I can understand your dilemma when I was younger I was in the same boat. Actually had to give up golf as

there wasn't enough money around. At least back then they didn't come out with new equipment every year. Played the same ole Persimmon driver and spaulding Irons for many a year. wasn't much of a choice in golf balls either. I get a chuckle out of the comments about the wedges shredding the covers on today's golf balls. You want to see damage? blade a balata ball and check out the smile on that puppy.

I am in the same boat as everybody else. I just a 25 year old guy who went to NC STate...by the grace of god and my parents (HAVE NO STUDENT LOANS!!!!!!!!!!). Didn't have the 4.0 in school. I have a ok job. Enough to pay the bills and live alright. Bought a lil townhouse on a golf course in Raleigh, NC that only cost me 96K. Between that and other bills....I have enough to function. Luckly found a great girlfriend who is a recent ACC golfer at NC State grad. She understands my addiction. We get to play golf for free at the course I live on. But to feed my addiction, I picked up a second job at a local college bar called Pantana Bob's. Working 3 nights a week.....most times till 3 AM. It gives me an extra 600 bucks a month. That is what I use to buy my golf stuff! So no.......we don't all have trust funds. Most of use are just average joe's who work hard.....and golf hard!!!!!!

Sorry to get so personal...but I feel I am among friends.

IAMAGOLFER.....what type of work do you do????

I am almost the same- same company 39 years, 35 years with the wife, kids are grown, but have not figured out how to keep them gone they keep coming back. If you could clue me in how you do that I could afford more clubs. I know how to say the word NO my wife just does not know how,

Ahhh you didn't set the RULE.... Listen up youngin's

Wife and I told our kids early on...you're out of the house at 25. you get one temporary move back but no bringing in spouses and kids. ;) Worked out well. I have too many friends with 30+ year old kids at home.

Get a job... and get a place to live I won't let you starve or become homeless but it's our turn at life. I don't think I've been without work for more than 2 weeks since I was 15. I am now happy to say that my kids have bigger better homes than I do.

You wouldn't believe the money you could make running drugs and guns thru southeast Asia during the late 60's! With a little frugality it should last another 50 years or so! ;)

Shoe, I have to admit I am a long time fan of your posts. However you just raised the bar with this one! I now have a newfound respect for you my friend. Not to mention you have the coolest avatar on this site and I always read your posts with the good Father's accent hehe. Thanks.

I'm not nearly as bad as some of the Ho's that lurk here, but I have had my moments. Rich? In spirit but not in dinero's.....

I remember my daughters telling me they were moving to California when they Graduated High School.

They never seemed to make it.

IMHO by setting the ground rules we forced them to take the initiative to take control of their lives.

Not that they haven't hit us up for a few bucks over the years. They're all really good kids.

Thanks for the compliment...I now need a jar of vaseline and a shoehorn so I can get my head thru the doorway but that'll only last a couple of days.

I'm a 21 year old student, so I have a bit of free cash since my 'rents take care of my hBA. I work in a local steel mill during my summer (current and last summer), which I made roughly $12K at during the summer and will likely better that this summer. I don't drink often, which also helps free up cash, and working shifts sometimes keeps me in more as well. The warden (gf) likes to buy clothes and she's eased up on me looking at golf equipment (not really buying just yet because I'm still looking to improve first) because she knows I don't nag her for buying clothes. I've also cut back on hockey sticks to potentially grab new clubs. I used to rotate new sticks every 2-3 weeks (similar situation to theBUNKY) where I'd sell on Ebay or another forum, and buy used/new from either as well to keep costs down.
