Anser/Anser 2 Slighter/TP Mills

Hey everyone, I've been looking to get a custom anser/anser 2 style and until recently, I was simply going to get one from Tom Slighter, he's a great guy and a great puttermaker. This past December, I asked David Mills to make me a customized Softail carbon and I love it even more than my 254 Klassic. Now I see that David will be introducing a plumber's neck anser style which really has my interest. I guess the question is, which one would you fellas go for. I'm not looking at eventual resale value because I tend to keep putters for the long haul. Fit and finish are important, and I know already that David makes a fantastic flatstick. I guess I may have some reservations on the Slighter mostly because I've never putted with one, along with that, the wait is longer from what I hear. On the other side of the coin, however, it be a little longer before David comes out with a Stainless model of his plumber's neck from what I've heard. Clearly a bit of a predicament as you can see. Shoot me thoughts, and opinons.

Thanks

Also, I'd especially appreciate comments from those who've had Stainless putters from each craftsman.

I've found that I prefer carbon steel to stainless, but I'd like to chime in on David's work. Simply unbelievable!

I ordered a plumbers neck Tradition from David (see avatar and previous posts) and couldn't possibly be happier. Quite simply it's the most gorgeous golf club I've ever seen, held, used, or owned.

You may wait a little longer for David's work, but you can rest assured your getting a work of art.

That's exactly it, his work is second to none! I've been keeping my eye on your tradition posts and that's what really got me interested in his plumber's neck. I mean i love my softtail, but I'd like a customized/fitted anser style too. Also, I've found his wait time to be far less than Slighter's. Both great work, both great guys, probably can't go wrong with either.... I could always go for carbon, I just like the maintenence free aspect of stainless after years and year of taking scrupulous care of carbon Camerons.

Thanks.

Keep'em coming!

Great! I'm glad I could urge at least one person toward buying a Mills putter! Nothing against Slighter or anyone else for that matter, but go ahead and get another Mills! You won't be dissappointed.

I have a Mills Stainless and love it. I like the click of the ball coming off the face. On the carbon Mills putters I guess the sound is a little different, seems to be a lower pitch, and feels a little mushy. I'm a music person so sound means everything to me on all of my clubs especially a putter. I have the dull finish on the top of my stainless which eliminates the glare issue which is one of the complaints I have heard from people on the stainless putters.

I'll chime in.

Just got my first Custom For Me from Slighter and love it. I went with the Tacoma and had a long neck hosel made and welded on, from Tom. The work is equal to any that I have seen, ever. The putter came out perfectly face balanced and is as good a feeling putter as any I have rolled. I went with the stainless steel and didn't do a floating face. I kept enough weight on the putter to do a slot in the future and still have the headweight I targeted in the beginning.

Tom reallly shines on customer service, as I am sure you have heard. We exchanged at least 50 emails over the course of getting it done, some regarding the putter and some just friendly chat. I, personally enjoyed building a relationship with the guy. It made me feel like I had real input on the creation of my flatstick.

I am sure you have probably seen pics of my LongNeck on WRX, before, but I'll put one in this post for comparison.

I have seen my number of putts steadily decline in the first 6 rounds with the Tacoma. Could be just that I am playing more and finally getting the hang of it, but I prefer to feel like the quality of the stick is finally making a difference in the quality of my putting.

All in all, like you have stated, they are both, or all three with Byron Morgan in the trio, excellent craftsman and true gentlemen.

Byron is making some gorgeous handmades and his turnaround time is the best of the 3. Don't hesitate to contact him regarding your desired putter. Tell him that LaMont sent you and he ought to get a kick out of it.

I have used a handful of his stuff over the past 8 or 9 years and loved every one of them.

Good luck and keep us posted on who you decide to go with. Personally, I love to spread it around and get one of each of the "little guy's" customs. Sooner or later it will get tougher to have the personal contact we have with this trio. I feel like I have to get while the gettin' is good.

Best of Luck,

LaMont in aZ
