Normanside CC was just sold at auction, I think they went belly up. I've never played there, played at Capitol Hills a bunch though.

Really? That is horrible to hear. Loved that place. Where I first learned to play.

Never played capitol hills.

Normanside is going to be semi-private. The person who bought it is also the owner of Hiland and Mohawk River. My guess is that it will be open to the public Mon-Thurs and members only Fri-Sun. But that's just my guess. Hopefully they let the public play on the weekend to make it getting a tee time at Capital Hills on a Saturday more easy.

I'd love to talk to some Wrxer's here about courses in the Albany area. Some are enjoyable to play while others are just straight up dumps lol

The guy who owns Mohawk River CC bought Normanside and is going to operate it as a public facility. Don't expect big things though, I played Mohawk River 2 years ago and I will NEVER go back...terrible course conditions, limited staff, and literally a 3 1/2 hour 9 hole round on a weekeday.

As for Capital Hills, definitely check it out if you get a chance. They really turned the condition of that course around in recent years and its one of my favorites in the area.

I live in Loudonville and belong to Wolferts Roost cc

Nice little track, I go to school at Siena so I see the place nearly every day.

To add a little more I just joined Pinehaven after 5 years at Orchard Creek. I am down for playing wherever though.

I play Mohawk River more than I should. Reason being is that on a weekend, a tee time is easy to get. Plus, $40 for 18 and a cart isn't too bad. The greens are actually among the best in the Capital Region. But the sand traps are mud traps with stones ( a common thing in the Capital Region). The tee boxes are crap.

I used to be friends and go to school with Robbie Bigley... But that was YEARS ago. I know he did his thing at Siena. Last I knew his father was the Pro at Pinehaven (I think). I've never played Wolferts Roost or Pinehaven. ALWAYS wanted to play at those places. Also always wanted to play Mohawk River (the private course in Schenectady) and Glens Falls Country Club.

Trying to get bunch of guys to show up on a specific day is usually a pita. I'm down though. I played Caphills last Friday, didn't play well. Conditions were a little wet and greens still hairy, spring season for ya.

Regarding courses, I still feel Colonie town course is a beauty, especially the original 18 (white and blue). Spa course would have to be an option (great course when greens are in good condition). O Creek has great greens and some challenging holes. There is always the National if you want to pony up, what, $185.00? I'm headed to the town course Friday-- first time out this year (ouch).

I will probably never play Saratoga National...I'd much rather drive to Bethpage, play the Black course for $70, and spend the remaining $115 I saved on gas, tolls, and food. The blue and white courses at TOC are very nice layouts in my opinion. I also really like the green course but for some reason people hate that nine. The red nine is the most uninteresting of the bunch. My main quibbles with that place are the hairy greens and the confusion associated with getting a tee time.

I've been struggling for a couple weeks over at Pinehaven...half the course's fault half mine. I wasn't hitting the ball good at all, and on a tight course like that its a recipe for disaster. Shot 6 over yesterday though (no birdies) so the new swing is starting to come around.

And I agree getting everyone together is a pita, its probably better if people just post up when they want to play and where and then people can just join in that way.

SNGC is only that rate for the track season. If you get onto their mailing list they have been known to give out vouchers for foursomes to play @ $75 pp. Either that or play with a preffered customer at a that same rate.....
I don't think that I would want to drive all the way to BPP aand play a 5 and a half hour round and get stuck playing with some knucklehead from LI...
Thats just my .02

Got an idea......Let's say we go with Cap Hills and make it for the last Saturday in May(the 28th). All those who are playing, commit to it by next Friday(May 6th) and someone who plays out of there or is close by can check to see if we can get the necessary tee times to accommodate the number of commitments. Sound OK????? Those who want to play should be able to clear their schedules by then.

Yup, Schyler is right behind Siena, Shaker is by the airport, and Wolferts Roost is just off 787 on route 9, so its on my way to school

Did you guys see Bryan Biggley will be in the Wells Fargo Tourney this weekend? He went birdie birdie to get the last spot in playoff against 2 others.

Hope he does well.
[/quote]

Yeah, good for him. He didn't play well but he'll be back out there. I just saw him a couple weeks ago at Pinehaven
