new shafts,really bad results

not wanting to give up my eye2+'s because the zz lites were to stiff for me to hit.i spoke to the rep at ping and he said putting in the zz 65 with cushin inserts and soft stepping the shaft up to 2 times will give me a great set of irons.i sent them back and after 4 rounds something is really wrong.i was able to hit my 6 iron before around 155 yards and my 3 iron just about 195 on the average.the last 4 rounds including range time i can not hit my 6 iron more than 140 yards and the 3 iron may go 165 if i am lucky.i hit my buddy's eye 2's and the old zz lites he has i was back to normal.my shafts and his shafts lined up showed that the shafts in my irons are soft stepped.i have the same swing and nothing changed in the week that it took me to get my clubs re shafted.any help out there?

How's the flight? Very low? Very high? Cushin's are a little heavier, but not enough to cause that kind of distance loss.

 

Losing 2 clubs worth of distance with a soft step is very very odd. Could be that you're better suited to the stiffer shafts.

i was told the old zz lites were 115 gr.the zz65 are 108 + the cushin insert which brings it up to the zz lites.the clubs just do not have the same feel they use to have and the ball flight is about the same ,but just nose dives and does not have the same carry.they feel like x flex shafts.

I gotcha now. The ZZ65's an odd duck. Some people find it VERY stiff, others find it to play very similar to S300. Sounds like it's not a good fit for your swing. It is a high kick tip stiff shaft, and not many golfers fit into that profile easily.

 

The soft stepping will make them feel softer, but won't do anything to change the fact that they don't fit you perfectly.

 

Have you hit the CS lites I think they may be right up your alley? How have you gotten along with standard dynamic gold?
