How do you clean your hat?

I did a quick search and can't find this question, but don't think I'm the only one who has this problem... the sweat head.

What's the best way to wash/clean a standard golf hat? Mid summer I'll only go a few rounds before the stains start ruining my hats.

Any recommendations?

I had one of those hat racks forming the hat, I'd take detergent and toothbrush and scrub them, let them dry in the hat rack. You don't want to get the hat soaked but you can scrub them good, then splash a bit of water on them to rinse them off. I've done this with white hats with great results. :D

 

p.s. Being the "Good" guy that I am, "ALL" my hats are "WHITE". :hi:

I've washed my in a cold gentle cycle but then removed it before the spin cycle. I then rinse it out in the sink and let it dry on top of another hat. Spray some Shout or Spray and Wash and let it soak before you put it in the washer. Or I just go buy another one.

I have always found that throwing a hat in the dishwasher work great.

The dishwasher with a little shout sprayed on first, i found also works the best. I've got a couple Scotty Cam. hats that are very hard to find to replace.

There is a plastic hat shaper found at most hat stores. You put your hat in the shaper, place it in the dishwasher and your hat comes out clean and keeps the size and shape.

 

Another way is to throw them in the washer with your clothes. Don't thow it in the dryer, it should be damp but not too wet. Wear it around the house until it dries. Actually feels pretty good if you wear it to the course on a hot day.

I've tried that, but they NEVER seem to get completely clean, and the shape/texture is always ruined afterward. I just rotate my dirty hat to "yard mowing duty", and use a different one. I get so many free hats from various sources, I never seem to have to buy any.

Rotate and then toss them after the season and buy a new one at the start. Usually with the decent colors TM has on their limited edition hats I just pick those up and replace them as I go. Even my treasured Auburn fitted baseball cap is dirty and I'll never clean it--it's not like it's a suit!

Oxyclean. Use enough to fill the little dispenser it comes with and let the hat soak in the "Oxied" water overnight. It brought back to life a favorite hat from dear alma mater that I thought was gone to the sweaty, smelly disgusting graveyard. Nearly back to 100%, but then again, as much of a lost cause as I thought it was, "near" is pretty dang good

I put 'er in with my laundry with an elastice on the beak to keep it intact. never dry it. Other times I put it in the dishwasher.......What I do really depends on my mood.

I guess I must be the bad guy Mac since all my caps I usually wear are black.

 

I usually handwash my caps with some laundry detergent in a bucket. I use one of these to hang them out to dry.

Top shelf of the dishwasher with very little soap works well for me. It will fade the hat somewhat but it does still look good.

depending on the material in the brim, i'll just wear them in the shower for a few minutes and scrub it down while im in there. on a sunny day you only have to wear it for 10-15 minutes after to get it to dry completly. plus it gets form fitted to your head.

Put 2 inches of warm,soapy water in your kitchen sink and swish your cap around for minute.

 

Then rinse and hang up on water spout to drip dry.

I put them in a plactic cage/rack and wash them in cold in the washing machine with a normal load.

 

Now for drying, I take the hat out of the cage and stuff it with a clean dry towel- that help the hat keep it's shape better than the cage.

 

The wash and wear drip dry action sounds interesting . . .

Skip the cage thing for your hat and try this: put your hat on an upside down bowl in the top rack of the dishwasher. The bowl will help retain the shape of the hat. Shout the sweat stains, dirt, etc. It will come out looking like new. Don't let the hat dry in the sun or dry too fast or it will shrink.

To clean yout baseball style cap, put it in the top rack of your dishwasher with lots of room around it, run on regular cycle and hang to dry. No worries.

I put them in the washing machine on the gentle cycle. To dry them, I shove clean hand towels in them and put them on the shoe rack that fits in the dryer.

 

Works like a charm.

You're kidding right? You can actually have golf hats dry cleaned???
