Push Hooking the ball

I saw myself on video and diagnosed some of my own problems, but I just wanted to here from you guys what drill you'd use to help this push hook problem.

First big hint - my divots are looking right, maybe like 10 - 15 degrees right.

Drill: headcover on ground just in front of ball to the right - about 45* angle and as close as you think you can get w/o clipping with the toe of the club; another headcover behind and to the left of the ball on a 45* angle - again as close as you can get it without clipping the ball with the heel.

 

Drill keeps your club coming straight down the line instead of inside to outside.

 

Push hooks for me are usually caused by coming too far from the inside and creating a big lag - I used to compensate for them by playing the ball bag and basically pinching 10-15 yard draws. That shot is long, but there is no way to cotnrol it into a green . . .

You need my instructor's cure called "Never Hook Again."

 

Basically what you need to do is feel like you are swinging directly "up a wall" on the backswing and then let the club fall back "down that wall" on the downswing and then immediately left of that wall after impact.

 

Also think this sequence in your downswing:

 

hips/hands/clubhead

 

Always have the hips in front of the hands and the hands in front of the clubhead.

 

You should start straightening out that push hook.
