Vacation in Phoenix, June 5-12

So, I'll be in Phoenix from June 5 to 12. I would love to play a really great course out there. I wouldn't mind driving a little ways either for a great course. Would love to hook up with another WRXer and play 18.

Got to play here in FL with a WRXer who came to my home town (Port Charlotte, FL) and had a great time.

Lots of choices for sure. You can play all the top courses at bargain rates in June.

My top recommendation would be the Saguaro course at We-Ko-Pa.

I'll be returning from a one week golf vacation in Tahoe on June 4, so I might have to lie low.

90 min - 2 hours, depending on where in Phoenix.

I really like Raven @ Verrado. Its a little west in Buckeye but a really nice course. Top notch staff. Great views of the whole valley

Sam, Im playing wekopa on friday with medicaptian, oneputt, and pure745, I'll let you know if it lives up to all the hype it recieves. But I trust everyones opinion on here so Im really looking forward to getting out there and playing.

FWIW, champions is one of my favorite courses Ive ever played.

We went up north but we decided just to keep it all in prescott. We played stoneridge last Friday and prescott country club on sat. I hope one_putt gets in here and talks about the 18th hole at stoneridge, it was incredible hahah.

I just got laid off a few weeks ago so I can't justify paying the fees for 7 canyons, nor would it have been a good idea after our friday night haha.

Keep me inform how Wekopa worked out, hopefully after the grind at work I will be looking for some where to play soon, either there or back to TPC Champion.

Ahh yes the 18th at stoneridge classic hahahaha. One of scratch that the worst designed par 5 I have ever seen and that includes # 8 on Wekopa Cholla. Its a 630 yard par 5 that narrows and drops straight down hill in a S shape right around 200 out from the green. We are talking 40-50 feet of drop at the least. It is also a complete blind layup to a narrow fairway. with a bunker long and desert short and right. Fore_Life and I hit 335 yard drives and only had 210 left to the pin so we went for it hit the bunker just short of the green thanks to a toe jobbed 4 hybrid.

 

The real fun began when I was wondering how the heck to you layup if you dont crank one out to 335. So joking around I grabbed my putter and rolled one down the hill about 110 yards, but I didnt play enough break so it trickled into the bunker about 110 yards out and about 20 yards uphill I hit 9 iron out of the bunker just got hung up pin high in the green side rough about 2 more inches right or some more spin and it may have been a tap in birdie. From there played a little chunk and run chip shot which almost dropped and tapped in for par. That is how you par a 630 yard par 5 after laying up with a putter

 

Another great non traditional par was #17 at PCC hit driver off the deck from the tee. wanted to work on distance control on my short irons so I hit an opened up 9 iron cut from 102 and 2 putted with my 2 hybrid for par.

Hi Joe, my game is in the toilet due to working, are you plan on playing WeKopa (Saguaro) soon? I presume that is the better of the two courses? Let me know in advance, and maybe I can take a day off from work.
