Finding an instructor

How do you go about it?

Ok, so I've never had a lesson before and I'm now thinking that to get to where I want it's about time to get some eyes on my swing besides mine. Up till now I've just been doing mirror work and video tape sessions on my own but nothing formal.

So my question is how do you go about finding the right instructor for YOU? How do you find someone with similar swing philosophies (sp?) etc.

If anyone has found a good instructor on Oahu feel free to let me know too!

My advice is to look for a guy that is VERY well versed in the basics. 90% of all swing flaws are caused by bad fundamentals (i.e. grip, setup, ball positions, etc...).

 

 

Also, if you can find someone who makes it very simple and doesn't fill your head with 42 swing thoughts BEFORE you even make a swing...you've found your guy.

 

Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day...

You almost have to give them an interview and try them out just to see if you are picking up what they are laying down. Ask their fundamentals and maybe ask for a reference or two. They should be willing to talk to you somewhat in depth on what their philosophy is.

Yeah, I get what you're saying about the interview. I think I have to get over my own self for hating to cold call people, not to mention a bunch of people if I don't find the right instructor quickly. My own thinking is I hate to bother people. But then again I think I need lessons to get down to scratch because I'm plateuing with rounds in the hi 70s and low 80s. My ball striking just isn't getting any better.
