Do you think golfers in japan want US only equipment?

Just a quick thought

I read alot of threads that bring light to Japan Only golf equipment.

Do you think their are people in Japan that drool over the US only equipment?

I wouldn't be suprised one bit.

I'm not sure what they think..but I'm drooling over those double dimple balls I orderd from tourspecgolf. And even though the drivers are $800 I wouldn't mine one of those ERC Hots

You'll be surprise actually how much Japanese love American edition clubs, In addition the price is cheaper than their own. You'll be surprise also how many % actually Japan products are really that good and better than ours here and you'll be surprise also that Japan issue design are not suitable for US condition courses. ( mostly on the bounce angle ). In late 80's to early 90's, Me and my buddy was working for one of the biggest exporter of US club that are hot on tour to Japan. At that time Callaway GBB was hot stuff.

 

At the same time if you go to a driving range in Japan, you'll be shock also how many of them really play golf in their own country. A lot of them only hitting balls and they took 2 or 3 times vacation a year and go to Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc... just to play some cheap but good golf courses.

My experience.

We have quite a few Japanese members at my club. Mostly play Japanese clubs Tourstage, PRGR, etc. Quite a few play US brands but Japan versions, meaning like the X Tour irons with different color cavity with stock NS Pro shafts. Or R7TP but the stock shafts are GD Tour ADs or Diamana 73s with TP graphics. I don't know if this is representative of the Japanese golfers in general though.

from what I observe at the golf shops I visit and my home club, the Japanese are very "loyal" to japanese brands. Tourstage is very popular amongst them.

Just as some Americans like Japanese golf products, there are Japanese that are loyal advocates of American products. In general though, the japanese hold their products in very high regard and feel that their products suit their physiques more aptly. Their products are priced much higher than comparative U.S. products though. I have owned several Japanese products by Honma, Maruman, and Mizuno. I like their products and find the workmanship to be exemplary. As for the technology, Japan has proven to be the testing ground even of U.S. manufacturers due to the fact that the Japanese like to try all the new fangled toys and don't mind spending ridiculous sums for a driver or iron set. Case in point are some of honmas products that sell for about $10,000 for a set of irons. maruman also has a line of equally priced goods.
