the real blades.

todays blades are a hair short of cavity backs with hollow cavities and multi material weights.

Nike blades are the worst blade I've personally ever hit, I just think the feel is downright terrible. Not putting the Cobra Pro MBs on there is robbery IMO

Wow, that's harsh! I thought the original Nike Forged Blade was quite good. Actually had me thinking of putting my MP-29's on the shelf for a sec! Endo forged, what's not to like about that :dntknw:

It seems that the J33's are hard to find at a reasonable price right now. I would love to get a set.
What would be your second choice?

Got to agree that the original Nike blades is a top quality set. As for the Cobra MBs...good set of irons but the design (2 small cavities) rule it out of the running for best "Blades" ever.

I played Nike blades for six or seven years. Needless to say, I thought they were top notch.

Solid feel, a nice flight, the shape was pretty much exactly what I was after and they weren't burdened with an excess amount of foofaraw and unnecessary stampings.

They are too new to go straight in at No1 but give it a few years and nobody will look beyond the MP68, a bit of nostalgia is understandable but it shouldn't cloud the issue - MP68; the modern classic.

I've compiled a list of some of the best blades made within the last 20 or so years, as well as some shafts to go along. What's everyone's opinion of them?

I'm currently gaming the Nike VR Forged TW Blades, But I have the Mizuno MP14 and Titleist 690MB (no dot) as backups. The ones I probably want the most are the MP 33/100s, TN 87s, 681/681 T's, KZG ZO, and Miura blades

I've played the Titleist 680 irons ON & OFF for the last 7 years. Outstanding blade.

Question: What are theTN 87

I've played my MP-33's since they came out and they are still in the bag.

Definitely have my eyeball on picking up a set of MP-68's. Heard nothing but great things about them and in some reports a whisper better than the 33's!!!!!

Bought a set of MP-32's as back up and it looks like one of our sons will be bagging those.

TN87s are a premium Mizuno blade knocked up to Tommy Nakajima's preferred specs and first produced around 1987 - hence the monicker. As well as old Tommy himself, Nick Faldo also used them for a time; bagging numerous tournaments and a major or three with the irons.

Shape-wise they're somewhat similar to MP14s, but with a copper underlayer, a few cosmetic tweaks and the you either love it or you hate it offset thing going on with the short irons. TN87s are quite rare and invariably highly sought after.

I really enjoyed my MP 33s & 67s, but man the chrome wears out in a year and the backs get so dented up. This is because Mizunos are super soft metal. FYI I hit a shot on the hard pan at Glen Eagles (SF) and nailed the corner of a buried bottle- I actually got glass embedded in the head!!!

Hogan 1999 Apexes w/ the apex 4 shafts were the most quality (read long lasting & beautiful head) butter blades of the 90's and I must say my Apex 50's with DGSL S-300s (in the bag) are my favorite of all time. They still look real good with minimal dents and no rust anywhere. That's a big statement cuz I never throw any of my clubs but I tend to be clumsy by dropping or bumping them on things them, quite often.

I have an anniversary set of the 50's that I may reshaft with Nippon 950GHs and that may be my all time dream set.

Sets in order:

Northwestern Chi Chi blades
Hagen Ultradynes w/ the twisted shafts!!!
Titleist Tour Blades
845s (could not resist the trend)
DCI - Bs (cheating cuz they are cavities)
Apex 1999 (heaven)
Eye 2+s (could not resist the BeCu but sold after one range session)
MP-33s
CG1s
MP-67
VIPs (Oh yeah baby)
S-59s (Back to PING & I was born in '59. Yes cheating again with cavities)
Cally X-Forged (cheating again with cavities)
Apex 50's
Done

+ 1 on the mp 14's. But no love for Wilson blades? Especially the 1976 staff bullet back. Maybe even the fg 17's.
