14 Degree Hybrid... anyone use one?

Just wondering if anyone uses a 14 degree Hybrid. I know Cleveland makes one called the "Cleveland Halo 1i strong"

yup - got mine 2 weeks ago now - i love it. it's TM dual rescue. i am not a long ball hitter so i need all the help i can get + can't always smack it with my 3-fairway wood.

I don't but use the HALO 16 degree. It needed to be reshafted to help it launch higher to help it get into the air. I personally don't think anything less than 16 degrees will help get any more distance. My clubmaker recommends 19 and up. I have a KZG 18 also which I switch out depending on the hole.

Usually 240 no more than that. I did remove my woods from the bag because of the hybrids.

I have a 14* Nickent 3DX, and hit it 245 off the deck, and 255 off the Tee give or take 5 yards. I took out my 3 wood for this club as distance is not that important but getting on the green from 240-250 is.

not sure if you are asking me the ? on 1-iron. never had 1 or 2-iron.

i kept the 3-wood in the bag - i know that it is doubled need with the TM DR hybrid but i use the 3-wood when i need to tee-off.. get much better feel & a bit more distance off-the-tee box with the 3-wood - i think due to more spin from it.. ahh what do i know.

just using whatever works for me. sorry for getting off the main topic.

I plan on adding a 14 degree hybrid to my bag soon as a 3 wood replacement. I'm leaning toward the Halo 14 degree because of past positive experience with higher lofted versions but I'm aware of a few other hybrid options at that loft as well.

i used a taylormade rescue dual tp 14* for a while during my quest for a new 3 wood. it was real easy to hit, and had a soft landing - great for long par 3's and going for par 5's in 2. i ended up finding two fairway woods that i hit really well too, nike t-60 and tm v-steel. not as easy to hit as the rescue dual, but they were longer, especially the t-60 off the tee.

 

the 14* hybrid is great, and a great choice, but for me and my game, i felt like i got more "bang for my buck" with a 3-wood, preferably the nike t-60.

hi all:just curious if your replacing a 3wd with a 14* hybrid what shaft length will you use stock 3wd length or something shorter for more controll.i know retief goosen used a tm rescue mid 14* instead of a three wood for a while with some success,but it all comes down to what your more comfortable with fwds or hybrids and also what's more important to you more distance or more accuracy.lets face it distance means nothing if you are always having to hit a recovery shot out of trouble on most holes.just my $0.02 cents worth and thanks for the input :crazy:

I use a 42" (Black) Vista Pro 90 in my 14* Tour-issued Rescue-Mid. That makes it as long as any 3-wood out there, but still more accurate and easier to hit than any conventional 3-wood.

I will second the Cleveland Halo 16* 1i as a solid club. I carry a 13* 3wd, so the hybrid begins to fill the gap to the 3i. However, I think 17* might be a little more versatile.

The shorter shaft is a big reason the 14 degree hybrid will replace a 3 wood for me. 41.5 - 42 inches for the hybrid versus 43 or more for a conventional 3 wood makes a difference for me with solid contact off the deck. I've considered playing a shorter shafted 3 wood but most of the hybrids have more upright lie angles than similar lofted FW's, which allows for better sole/turf contact with the shorter shaft at least for taller players like myself who need more upright lie angles. I agree with you that it's a personal preference choice though, some players are money with traditional FW woods but I've never been able to hit them consistently straight and the hybrids just seem to suit my eye and my swing.
