Driver and Fairway Woods

Bending lofts

In the most recent Golf Digest I read the What's in the Bag? segment for Sergio Garcia. It noted that he has his driver bent from 9.5 to 9* and his fairway wood 15 to 13.5*.

How risky a proposition is this in regards to breakage? It's something that I've considered to do to my driver which is a Cobra 460 SZ 10.5* maybe to 9* and my fairway wood Wilson Staff FwC 15 to 13.5*. Thanks to all of you who reply.

Changing loft by 1.5 degrees seems like a risky proposition. I would be reluctant to change that much. Changing from 10.5 to 9.0 might just require you to buy another head.

 

However, if you're considering changing it, everything depends on the hosel. I don't know about Cobra's but I've had TM heads bent before and it worked out fine. Then again, it wasn't more than 0.5 degrees.

 

Remember, if they break Sergio's they can just give him another one.
