Looking for SHOVELS with as little offset as possible.

Section ThirtyOne

Recommended Posts

A lot of threads here look for game improvement clubs with little offset, and I see recommendations for the i15, X-22 Tours and such.

What about those of us that need MORE forgiveness? I'm talking big heads, wide soles, chunky toplines... doesn't matter. Just as little offset as possible!

TRUST ME !!!!!!!!! ... Cobra UFIs ;) ... For a shovel - and I'm a shovel guy .. They don't have much offset

I saw your reply in another thread and these seem to be right up my alley. However, I can't buy them new from the shop I work at. :(

Maybe I should just suck it up and buy them used. You didn't steer me wrong with the L4V after all... What do you have in them for shafts BTW?

What shafts are you looking for? For me I was on a hunt for a year or so for exactly what you are looking for, larger heads with no offset and had stock S300's in them. My search led me to Wilson Pi7's (outgrew them) and the Cobra Carbon CB (soles just too big and rounded, I am a digger and the soles kept me from digging in). My 2 cents.

I'm partial to regular Rifle shafts, or Project X. I generally don't like shafts that are too light as it tends to mess with my tempo.

Stock shafts are not a huge concern, as I can easily have them reshafted.

If you want a big clubhead with a little bit of offset, look for some Wishon 560C's.

This is the only set on ebay right now. I demoed them once and they were too big for me.

I agree with ROBOPTI: Cobra UFI's have very little offset and are ridiculously forgiving. You can also custom order Ping g10 or g15 irons with the offset reduced. Call Ping customer service for more info. Ask them if you can send back a set and have them reduce the offset as well.[/quote]
It appears that UFI's are hard to find in left handed. :black eye:

As for the Ping suggestion, thanks, but I think they charge a pretty penny to flatten offset out of irons. Although a big shovel like the G15 with i15 offset would be ideal!

Woah, the Cleveland Hibore irons (all three generations) have ridiculously small amounts of offset. Even less than my RAC LT's and former 695's. :cheesy:

R9 and Tour Burner Irons are 2 sets of irons that are a shovel type iron that has minimal offset.

Agreed. My tour issue tour preferred are more forgiving than you would think and have little offset. The x-22 tours are remarkably forgiving as well. As for shafts, I prefer either kbs tour or project x unflighted.

I would imagine that I'm in the same sort of situation you are since I hate offset, but need forgiveness. I played the X-20 Tours for 2 years and am playing the MX200s this year and both irons come close to your description. In terms of forgiveness I'd have to give a slight edge to the X-20 Tours, although I do like the MX-200 better in terms of feel and shot shaping ability (even though I really shouldn't attempt shaping shots given my skill level).

I know exactly where you are coming from as offset really adversely affects my iron play. After several experiments (Ping I5, Taylormade r7 TP, Mizzy mx-200) after I decided that I wanted a bit more forgiveness than my beloved X-Tours were giving, I have discovered the Titleist ap-1 710's. Excellent feel and playability in a club I can stand to look at (and am able to hit!).

I have a set of Ping Rapture J Specs, and I can say they definitely meet your criteria for shovels without offset. That is why I got them because I don't like a huge offset. I have 4-PW, green dot, (2* up), with AWT stiff shaft, standard length.

I have them for sale if you are interested. Going to a Ping demo Thursday night and get fit for G15's. May need AWT regulars instead of AWT stiff and I definitely need another 1/2" to 3/4" length on my irons. And after a few rounds, I need something between players irons and shovels.

The J-spec Rapture's sound right up my alley, and normally I would take you up on your offer. BUT, I'm a lefty which compunds the situation even more. :black eye:

Much to my surprise, it looks like i'll end up with G15's. I fooled around with a 7-iron at the range tonight, and although it took a few swings to get dialled in... I was killing it. :man_in_love:

Super forgiving, and I wasn't hitting moonballs with them either!

Call PING on this and they said no way. They said the only thing they could do was bend the irons loft, which in effect would reduce the offset ever so slightly, but it would also effect the bouce of the soles.

Really? Wow, I could have swore that WRX used to do this as custom work. I do recall it being quite expensive too.
