I listened to KP talk about his supposed 2 iron some months back. Turns out its really a 3 iron jacked to 17*. The max iron in his bag is 3 iron.

Some people should quit taking for gospel what's written on db's or published in golf rags. I suggest listening to the horses mouth during interviews. Most PGA pros switch out wedges, hybrids for long irons, and wood lofts, even shaft profiles depending on the course design and conditions they will be facing.

KP is definitely not playing the R7's anymore. He had the R9's at the Chevron and then he had Tour Burners at the Shark Shootout.

How can KP have that driver shaft in there? Did TM make that shaft personally for him to fit in to the R9? Or is his shaft not adjustable? That shaft is not an option for the R9 on TM's website.

You can put any shaft you want in the R9.. and even if you couldn't.. Being one of their top tier staff players, he'd be able to get anything he wanted.

For what it's worth, I don't think he even plays that shaft. I think he plays a Matrix HD of some sorts.

Taylor Made can get any shaft and have their graphics painted on it so that the television cameras can't tell what is in it. I have a TP7X with the 07 Burner TP Grapahics painted on it in a your issue Burner 07 TP, looks like the stock TP shaft until you look at the under side of it.

Exactly. The distinct red and white colors of the R9 shaft are a good advertisement feature for Taylormade. The shaft is the most visible part of the club for the viewer. I would be willing to bet that not many of the tour players playing the R9 have a stock shaft option.

Kenny Perry refused to let his beloved Ping Craz-E putter die, but it may be on its last legs.

 

The putter hosel broke at the season-opening SBS Championship and, despite repairs, he has not been able to quite duplicate the feel of the original, which was given to him by a member of his home club, Bent Pines.

 

"(There's) a ball bearing down in the hosel, and the shaft goes over, that's what holds it, and I guess Paul Ardgarten, the gentleman that gave it to me ... I think he threw it in a lake or something, because the shaft rusted from the inside out," Perry said. "It broke around the ball bearing around that hosel."

 

Perry, who credited the Craz-E for several wins that helped him make the 2008 U.S. Ryder Cup squad, said he has tried about 15 similar putters, but hasn't found the right new one.

 

"Each head feels differently as the ball comes off the face. Some are a little hotter, some are a little softer," he said. "I don't know what that material is, that blue insert, they are different. And I can feel it and I can hear it. They sound different off the putter."

 

Perry said that Ping is re-shafting his old putter and will make two more copies for play at this week's Arnold Palmer Invitational.

 

Plus, Perry is trying other putters. TaylorMade reported it had built one of its new Vicino putters for him that was a little too open, but that he had found a model that was just 1 degree open. Perry has been testing that putter as well as his Craz-E putters.

Kenny Perry has been inundated with putters.

"I've had everybody sending me putters. You know, it's incredible how many people have sent me putters. I've got a houseful right now," he said at the John Deere Classic.

That's because Perry's gamer, a Ping Craz-E putter that he had used for three successful seasons, broke earlier this year at Kapalua. Ever since, he's been struggling to repair it or find another putter with similar magic.

"The shaft rusted from the inside out and broke around the ball bearing inside the Ping putter. Wasn't anything I did," he said. "Five minutes before my tee time at Kapalua, right when I hit it, the head snapped off, the putter head's off, the shaft onto the putting green, and I had to run into the locker room and get a backup putter; and I told my son, I said, 'It's going to be a tough year.'"

Perry said he has tried other Ping putters and Odyssey putters. He's also tried at least one TaylorMade model.

This week, he's using a special Bobby Grace model that the putter master made for him.

"He kind of copied the Ping a little bit. Kind of looks very similar to that," Perry said. "Bobby made it, sent me three putters to the house."

With the Bobby Grace on the weekend, Perry had 28 and 29 putts. He finished T-15 for the tournament.

YOu are correct due to the new grove rule kenny could not use his trusty r7's so went through many sets i think about 20 with conforming and these old irons where conforming due to the v groove. He now plays the burner 2.0 i think but he used these for a coule of weeks

Nope, you ain't crazy. It's an xFT wedge. He is, however, playing the new Burner 2.0's right now. I hope Kenny can calm it down with the equipment search and play some good golf in '11. He could really do some damage on the Champions' Tour!
