organize clubs in bag

OK, I tried to do a search on this subject, but with no luck.

With a typical stand bag, do you organize with woods at the top or bottom near the legs?

I keep the woods up top, but just wondered what y'all thought.

Woah! I keep my woods up the top but you better watch out, JHR keeps his down the bottom and he is no hacker by any means.

Josh

I believe the reason to put them at the bottom of the bag was so that when you ride in a cart your headcovers/woods don't get in the way and it's just more convienent in the back. I believe that's what JHR said.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Josh. Jer-Jer is correct, i keep them on the bottom most of the time, i dont walk that much anymore, so it does make it easier to get clubs out .

I have to agree with dlhunter42 that if you put your woods on the bottom then you will scratch the shafts of the woods. I use a Sun Mountain MPB bag and i have my clubs this way

Top Row: Driver, 3 Wood, 3 hybrid.

Second Row: 4 hybrid, 5 iron, 6 iron.

Third Row: 7 iron through Pitching Wedge.

Fourth Row: Gap Wedge, Sand Wedge, Lob Wedge, empty slot.

Of course the putter has it's own putter well.

just my two cents, Steve

you keep them up top. You look like a hacker when they are in the bottom

Woods in the back works great for carts and with caddies. I think that's mainly where the practice is rooted. When a caddie is carrying your bag, they usually set it down in a way that has the putter and wedges nearest to you, with the longer clubs in the back. That way you don't have to reach through the woods to grab your wedge or putter.

Same logic when the bag is on a cart. Shorter clubs closer.

When carrying though, it makes sense to me to organize them in a way that makes them easier to pull, and that's with the woods near the legs and the putter and wedges near the straps, but you rarely see folks organize them that way (myself included). I did notice several bags of walkers at Open Qualifying here locally that had them organized them that way.

And to be honest, I heard one player getting ribbed for it from a buddy. I checked his score on the leaderboard, though, and although his bag may have said "I'm a hack", his score said, "I hope you look at my bag and confuse me for a hacker, which will allow me to get deep into your wallet before you know what hit you..." :friends:

I have to agree with your last comments, I doubt that the placement of your clubs in your bag can define your ability to play or not. And i have never had any issue with scratching of my shafts, so to each his own, i say put em where ever you want, who cares?

I keep mine at the top, and the funny thing is my bag is designed to fit the driver on the right hand side. It's got its own separate compartment. I was always taught you go from left to right, D, 3W, 5W up top, the 3I etc in decending order. I also keep my wedges on the right, in their own separate compartment.
