My biggest pet peeve...

I never understood why people just grab random balls. Especially when two holes are adjacent to each other you'd think people could deduce that if it's no their ball it probably belongs to someone else.

Saturday I'm playing. Par 5 which was turned into a par 3 temporarily. I hit my ball maybe 5 yards right of MY green. We drive around, and a ****** bag from another fairway is picking up my ball, sitting next to my green, asking me if I'm playing "A titleist 3"?? It actually was a 5, with a red circle around the number, a line above "titleist" and a blue alignment line. It looked like an American flag with all the color on it.

So the guy picks it up, I said "that's my ball". He says something like "are you sure?" then he kinda looks at it and places it back down.

Then I get over my chip, and the other guy from his group comes flying back up in his cart, they're talking back and forth (all about 20 yards from me).

Anyway, the idea is simple. If the ball isn't yours, and the hole is within 150 yards of another hole, don't pick it up!

I had this happen to me a month or so ago. I was playing and the hole I was on ran parallel to another but going opposite directions. There is about 15-20 yards and a cart path in between the two holes. I hit my drive okay, it was maybe 5 yards off of the the fairway and in the first cut on the right side. I am standing across the fairway from my ball waiting for my partner to hit. The guys on the other tee all hit their drives into our fairway. One of the guys walks over to my ball and picks up and starts walking away. Meanwhile I am watching him and he knew I was watching him. Then he looks over and says is this your ball. I was really pissed off. I play bridgestone and I rarely see anyone else playing them so I knew this guy just picked my ball up. I have also had people play my ball, I don't get it.

i sort of had this happen this past sunday and almost got into a fight over it. i called an older man a jackass on fathers day and his son didnt like it that much. in my eyes he desrved it though. i was on the 7th hole a 170 ard par 3, to the front is a bunker to the right are some tree's, im heading for the trees and yell fore as i see another group in these trees. they seperate the 7th green from the 9th fairway.

i get over there, im looking for my ball, the older guy says, " are you playing a bridgestone" i say yes, he pulls it out of his pocket and throws it like 20 feet. i ask him if he makes it a habbit of picking up other peoples balls and he said " yes i do, if knowone is around ill pick up every ball i find".

i asked him did he not hear me say fore or something, he said " i heard it but didnt hear a ball hit or drop"

i told him that he should respect other people balls and leave them alone as i was such a busy day and that it may take time for someone to head for their ball, especially if one has to wait for 3 others in the group to tee off. he said "maybe if you work on your accuracy you would have this problem" i was totally frustrated over the hole thing, i said speak for yourself jack a**, your playing from the same trees. the guys son didnt like it at all but guy seemed like a snobby old man who though he could just do what ever he wanted like he owned the course or something and i felt he deserved it.

anyhow, one thing i learned from the situation was the mental aspect of the game, i totally blew up the 7th 8th and 9th hole for the day.

Words to live by: Leave any ball you find where you find it if there is any chance in the world that someone is still playing it.

Instead of waiting for the rest of my group to tee off, I wish I had the stones to take off immediately after hitting an errant shot near an adjoining fairway to quickly "protect" my ball from dishonest or thoughtless people. (They should change the protocol to allow you to hit your provisional right away instead of waiting for others to tee off, and then encourage you to chase after it without waiting!)

Luckily I have never played someone else's ball. I have seen it done by someone (My friend) and it was purely accidental. He was having a bad round and shanked one in the tree line. He was frustrated and saw Titelist and played it. Long story short, he realized it on the green when he picked it up. He went back and sure enough someone was looking for their ball. He apologized profusely and we went on about our way.

Just want to note something to the OP. Accidents happen. If I were to accidentally hit your pall and you spouted that trash at me. We would have both been removed from that golf course, as I would have immediately swung at you. I play with my son and wife on a regular basis. If you think there is any chance in hell I am going to let you disrespect me like that in front of my family, you have another thing coming.

Ah, the golf gods doing their worst. Its my biggest peeve too and I've had a few really humbling experiences. Once while playing with a buddy that likes to drink beer while playing, he likes to have one in each hand. He never marks his ball and is always real quick to just fire at the first ball he finds, one day I was on his a** about it after he hit one from another fairway, we go out on the 18th fairway and he starts to hit a ball (knowing that the 10th teebox feeds right into 18) so I tell him he better make sure its his, he hits I walk over to mine hit it towards the green, a guy tops the hill and asks if we've seen his ball, I ask what brand he says "Titleist", well no prob my buddy hit a topflite, I go on look back he's still looking, I drive back down ask him if it was marked he says "blue circle on the number", I screamed! I had hit his ball! same mark as mine and as luck would have it he right to the area I had. Very humbling.

If that is all it takes to bring you to fisticuffs, then you are retarded. The cemetary, and prisons, are full of people who just wouldn't let someone "disrespect" them in one way or another.

Actually both of you are pretty juvenile for acting that way. Keep a cool head, be the better man, and go on about your business. That would be a much better example for your son.

If I've done something to someone on accident, I apologize and move on. In that instant, I'm done, it's over. I don't care what they say to me, it will NOT ruin my day. Your continually raving about isn't hurting me in any way. You're only upsetting yourself, and ruining your day. Now, whats the point in doing that?

My biggest pet peeve is when I have a relatively short 6-8 foot putt tracking towards the hole, someone in my group says "Nice Putt" and 98% of the time it lips out. Absolutely infuriates me. Just keep your mouth shut.

"Keep your lip off my ball dude!" black%20eye.gif

It's always the guy that said nice putt that stopped it from going in, never the guy who hit the putt. lol

My biggest pet peeve is when someone can't play 18 in 3 hours. 3 1/2 is okay but you know you can do better. Don't give me that 4 hour crap. I've seen people who can't break 100 play in 3 hours easy so it has nothing to do with ability. It's a lack of respect for other peoples time. With an empty course, I've played with three other guys and finished in 2 hours several times. It's not the US Open. Hit the ball.

I golf with a guy who is absolutely the worst ball finder in the world. He always starts looking for his ball about 30-40 yards away from wherever it stopped. He claims he has nearly perfect vision but he can't tell for the life of him where is ball went.

Yesterday he had a ball roll off the back of the green where there were a large slope behind the green and then thick heavy woods/bushes. The grass on the slope is practically dead because its only rained like once in the past 10 days. We got to the slope.. No ball. I said that ball is gone. But he insists on looking for it because "there's no way that went into the woods." and we waste 5 minutes, then another 2 minutse as he has to go back to the cart (which has to be parked a good 40-50 yards away on this green) and get another ball because he don't have one in his pocket. Luckily there was no one behind us or I would told him to drop a f'kin ball already.

On an empty course, when you see no one in front of you the whole day, 3 hours is usually do-able. Around here, that just doesnt happen (I've been coming up 16 at 6:30pm and seen guys on #3 tee, #2 green, and #1 green, so the course stays busy all day) unless you are the 1st group out. 4 people playing a 4 hour round of golf is a comfortable pace. 4 people playing in 2 hours, even on an empty course, is too much rushing around. My life is pretty fast paced on a daily basis, so when I am playing golf, I'm not going to rush around the course to try to set a land speed record. I WANT my round to last more than 3 hours. It is my escape from daily life, and to rush through it just isnt appealing to me.

my buddy is the same, he usually drives the ball 250 260, every now and then 270 280, yet every time he slices he thinks the ball still goes those distances straight and then off to the right. he always is looking for his ball 40 yards ahead of where it actually is, i keep telling him your ball is back that way but he just wont listen. only problem is if there is any dough on the line i have to keep a close eye on him as he will magically find his ball somewhere where there is no chance it could of landed there

You would be surprised how many times I've been told "NO ITS NOT" when letting someone know that the ball they are about to hit is indeed mine. I remember one time after driving just short of a 320ish yd par 4, I see another ball roll past mine into the rough on the left side, less than 20 yards from my ball. It was someone's tee shot from a hole coming parallel to ours. Before the rest of my partners are finished with their tee shots, I see a cart drive into our fairway and proceed to hit my make-able chip for eagle, even though my ball is easily visible, brand new, and marked with my initials. Regardless of my yells and arm waves, the player hit my ball and proceeded to his 3rd shot . I get down to the ball the other player left in the rough and scoop it up to go trade balls with him...and of course,...ITS A YELLOW RANGE BALL. Easy to mistake for my fresh TM TP RED, right?

Last year I suspect it happened at a local 9-holer. #5 and #7 fairways are next to each other separated by a narrow line of pine trees.I hit my ball and it rolls under the 2nd or 3rd tree but when I get there the ball is nowhere to be found.(You can easily see under the trees, So I know it wasn't under them.)However there was a guy in the rough off #7 fairway who was hitting multiple shots (Like 2 or 3) and one of them was about 5-10 yards from the one tree. I still to this day suspect that guy stole my ball but I couldn't prove it so I ended up with stroke and distance. At least it was a crappy round anyway so it didn't matter that much.

My favorite...

Early '90's I'm playing this little 9 hole course on Fort Gordon GA. I was a member at the time and they had 2 courses, a Robert Trent Jones championship course, and this little dirt track nine. The membership covered both courses, so I'd go out and play with my kids after work.

Anyway... I stripe a drive right down the middle of a little par 4, as I'm walking towards my ball this cart zooms across from an adjacent hole and the guy scoops up my ball without even slowing down. "Hello! Hello!" He never even acknowledged me.

My real pet peeves, footprints in bunkers, divots not filled/replaced, and those guys who start playing games when they're down. The other day I was in a skins game, 1 under through 3, 4th tee one of the guys "accidentally" starts his gas cart in the middle of my tee shot.

This may be a little over the top but to those that are willing to get in fights over these things, take note, around my town recently one man shot and killed another man, the reason...they were arguing about parking to close to each other in a parking lot. Man #1 threatened Man #2 (no weapon just verbally) and Man #2 shot Man #1 and killed him. Over a parking space. You never know how these things will go. Just take a drop and play on.

Write the names of porn stars on your balls. Nobody will pick up a ball with "Mandingo" written in big, black sharpie.

Works well in scrambles. ;)

Wow, you are quite the role model for your son!

I hope the two of you can meet up some day (just not on my course). One gets a bloody lip, and the other goes to jail (and hopefully civil court once you're out). You deserve each other.
