e-bay mishap - club not as described- shaft extended

what to do?
I try not to buy clubs off e-bay but this time i saw one that i wanted and bought it. it was a tour issue cally 4+. the pics were blurry but the description looked good.

When the club came in, i noticed that the ferrule was not the normal callaway ridged one. Rest of the club looked good and the head had no serial number. I thought it may be that some vans do not use the Cally ferrules. Anyway, I let it go and left him feedback.

The next day the grip felt weird. I took it to a clubmaker to swap out the grip. When we cut the old grip we found no callway ID label and there was a 1" extension!

I tried to contact the seller to return it but have had no response. I did give him the benefit of the doubt and let him know that perhaps he did not know or was selling for another person.

I feel that the seller should have mentioned that there was an extension on the shaft at least.

Anyone have this type of experience? Any tips? Am I stuck with the club as is?

he might not even known himself... hell I turn around clubs on ebay all the time... I'm not going to cut the grip off and check everyone. Besides unless it's some really nice shaft you were paying for the head pretty much anyways. A 1inch extension if properly installed should not have any ill effect.

it's still tour anyways..right. You dont have to have the id bands

That is what I noted on my post.

In any case, I would have appreciated a response. It was still misrepresented. There was quite a bit of "built up" under the grip and that is the reason I took it in. The grip on there was a **NEW** Lamkin Velvet. I thought it had just been installed.

I would give the seller the benefit of the doubt also on not knowing an extension was installed since he does have over 700+ feedbacks with only two withdrawn bogus negatives. Now that he knows about the extension, there is no excuse not to respond even if its a no to your refund request. Hopefully, his statment of "Customer Satisfaction is my #1 Priority...look at my feedback and bid with confidence" in his auctions means something after sale.

I would call this a le$$on learned, a le$$on that I and probably many have learned in the past. Lack of information and blurry pictures are enough to make me pass or ask questions no matter what the sellers reputation is or how many positive feedbacks they have. It doesn't matter if its ebay or the B/S/T, a question asked with an answer is more information to base a purchase on.

I had a very similar experience on Ebay. My Callaway Tour Issue Driver purchase went as follows:

Prior to bidding I inquired as to if the shaft (Zcom MW54) had been tipped & how he new it was tour issue.

He responded as saying “I do not know if it was tipped” & “it does not have a serial # like the retail clubs and the shaft still has the Callaway tour van id label on it”

When I received the club it had no Tour ID label on it so I asked him if it was under the grip.

He respsonded: “yes it is under the grip, thnks”

I then removed the grip to check & the Tour ID label wasn’t there either. It was then I noticed that a shaft extension was present.

I let him know & he explained to me that “They use extensions if they have a certain shaft a player likes the tip feel of.” . In an additional email he wrote “It was extended as it was originally in the players 3 wood and he liked the shaft feel so much he wanted it in a driver.”

The seller did offer a refund but no shipping charges & only if I regrip the club with the same grip. And also offered a credit for the shaft if I wanted to go that way.

I decided that I would give the seller the benefit of the doubt and wanted to see how the club would perform as is & chalk it up to lesson learned. I am quite happy with the driver, as it is a very solid club.

This experience however did leave a sour taste in my mouth even though the seller did offer a refund & was apologetic. My new online purchase policy is to ask very specifically about the item. If the purchaser pleads ignorance, then move on. There are way to many clubs online for sale & if you are patient, you can get what you want. I don’t fault the seller for what happened & he had a similar number of positive feedbacks (I did not post a negative). I would be interested however if it is the same seller.

False alarm, not the same seller!
