I think the M675 look outstanding. I almost pulled the trigger on a set but I figure the price will drop soon, then I will pick up a set.

I was always disappointed that MacGregor was the only major name brand company that I never saw appear at one of the local big golf demo day events in So. Cal. Heck, I even saw Hippo & Miura come out to some of these locations. I would still like to try out their MacTec drivers and fairway woods. Just saw the new magazine adds where they are giving away their driver, fairway woods if you buy a set of irons or driver, are they they in need of cash and clearing out inventory?

I just think the current MacGregor technology is too gimicky. They should have done a better job marketing their classic irons like the PCB and PCB Tour. The initial V-Foils were OK, but after that alot of their clubs are not as refined as others. I don't see their classic green and white staff bags very often at Tour events either. To me that staff bag was signature to MacGregor, similar to the Titelist bags. I think they had a classic brand like Titleist, but messed with it too much.

Hard to believe that back in the day MacGregor was one of THE top club lines selling.

It's tragic the way MacGregor has been alowed to lose it's focus...

There was a time when MacGregor made the best irons out there (along with Wilson and Mizuno) and now the company really does seem to have lost it's way entirely.

Hogan seem to have also perfected the art since Callaway took over the reins..

Very sad to see.

I have always thought their stuff was top notch... even the cheap stuff they made for the department stores (target, sears, etc) was pretty damn playable.

Unfortunately they lost their way and listened to some marketing genius who suggested sex appeal was the way to attract market share. Big mistake... hard to take them seriously anymore.

I recently bought one of their putters (which I really like, and is very well made) but I would have never thought to look at them if it was not recommended by a friend.

Yeah, they really may be in trouble. This whole "get a driver free with a set of irons" business reeks of them getting rid of inventory and getting as much cash as they can while they still can. I just tried ordering a 4UT utility, and they told me they're not making the 4 anymore...It's not backordered, they're just not making it anymore. But you can still get a 3.

Hmm.

^^That's odd, because the ad shows both the 3 & 4 utilities as part of the BOGO promotion. I do love my MacTec NVG2. It's a fantastic driver, I'm just having swing issues, it's the only reason it's not in my bag right now. Wouldn't think of selling it or trading it in, though, cause once I get my swing fixed with some lessons, the MacTec is as good or better than any premium driver on the market, IMHO.

I recently went into a big box golf retailer and asked to see their MacGregor apparel line (hats/shirts) and was sad to see that everything just said MacTec. The owner actually told me that their rep even has to have his polo embroidered with the old MacGregor logo since his company was no longer supplying the same. He also had all the stand, cart, and staff bags marked down almost 50% off the MSRP. I play the 1025M and hate to see this happening to such an iconic brand, but, in the end, it is what it is.

I just received what is probably the last new set of 1025CM's available. Played these for a couple of years and always regretted selling them. The 675's and the 685's are top notch and if I hadn't found the older set I would have bought the 685's. I can only hope that MacGregor gets back to its senses and resumes putting out classic designs. Forgings are as good as any and the forgiveness factor is stellar. Long live Mac!

Local branch of a large retailer (EW) has all its staff pushing the NVG2 line. They use it and think they are the best top to bottom. Asst. Mgr (and lead MacGregor cheerleader) says they are coming out with a whole new line of traditional equipment.

There stuff is sweet and hopefully they can get a bigger tour presence in the near future. I believe if they can add a top quality player or two to there staff they will be fine. And if they do come out next year with some sweet, traditional clubs, it may bring more people back to MacGregor

Agreed. Their tour staff is just not getting them the exposure they need. Although, with more and more Nationwide coverage on TV, I am a little surprised they haven't assembled a few players for that Tour.

Also, the fact that their key players (Badds and Olazabal) play tiny blades that mere mortals could not hit, doesn't exactly showcase the company's products like some other brands are able to do. The whole Greg Norman association has been a flop from the start. They definitely need to re-arrange their Tour presence if they plan to stick around on the Golf retail landscape. I really enjoyed the M685's when I had a set, and will be giving the M675's a go fairly soon. Not sold on the drivers, fairways, or hybrids though. Cup face technology works (Callaway.) They just need to put it into a more attractive package. Something 460cc that looks traditional and incorporates the cup face would be really cool. Maybe internally-weighted heads instead of the screws all over the place in the outside. Yuck.

They're also (as of last night during the Fed Ex coverage in the UK) screening a pretty heavy advertising campaign, featuring Greg Norman...

As things stand at the moment, they're either very optimistic for the future, or throwing good money after bad it seems.

so what the heck is going on, are they going out of business, re-organizing, or perhaps just trying to get more people to try their clubs

I live in the same town as their HQ's, so I know some folks over their.

From what I hear, they are getting back to their roots, and away from the oriental inspired clubs of the last few years.

The future is very bright for Macgregor, everyone there(that I know) is very committed and optimistic. This years lineup looks amazing!
