I can't be happier for Geoff because he's been my favorite player for quite some time now, but that was worse than watching Goosen, Brooks, and Cink three putting on the 18th green at Southern Hills. Ogilvy certainly earned the trophy with his chip in on 17 and the great up and down after a couple tough breaks on 18 but Mickelson and Monty certainly put the trophy on a golden plater for Ogilvy. What a great, suspenseful ending to the tournament. Congratulations Geoff!

im just thinking Monty must be kicking himself for thinking he needed to make a 50 footer for par and ended up 3 putting

They were going through it and they said that it was 36 feet.

That was crazy....

Brandel Chamblee on Monty - "That monket on his shoulder must have been jumping up and down on Monty's shoulder while he was hitting the second shot from the 18th fairway"

Love it....

What about Furyk's putt?

Padraigs wiff yesterday?

Congratulations geoff !

If tiger was watching this, he might be smiling a bit. At least he got a consolation of not having phil's company in a one elusive record of having 3 straight majors..

Better luck next time Phil ! It might help if you try and using a fairway wood if the driver is not working..

Go Tiger ! :friends:

The Phil of old RETURNS!!!! What was he thinking??? HAHAHA He deserves to lose after playing like that.

Why do people get so much enjoyment out of watching other peoples failures. I don't care if some think he's the biggest a-hole or some think he's the greatest thing for golf. Where is the entertainment factor in enjoying failure? It's almost like watching Nascar and hoping for a wreck.

Congratulations Geoff. Well played. Probably the hardest yet fair US Open to be played in years.

I like Adam Scott, too, but I think Geoff is definately the best Australian at the moment with a major under his belt now. He shouldn't be too far off of Scotty in the World Rankings tomorrow. I'd like to see them square off at Royal Liverpool, though! :friends:

yeah i think he may get to no.9 or no.10...i won't be surprised..the rankings put a lot of emphasis on wins..and coz geoff's got 2 wins itz moved him up a lot...I don't mind Geoff..coz he and Adam are good friends and they went on a trip together with their wives/gf's :idhitit:

why not join the Adam Scott forum?

All phil had to do on the last hole was hit a 3 iron, and keep a pulse. Worst case, playoff. But, then he would've had time to work his issues out with the big stick. Any other player standing on the 18th hole of a MAJOR would realize after hitting only 2 fairways for the round, it's time to put the big dog back in the house. Anyway, he should've just pitched out to guarentee at best the win, at worst a playoff.

Imagine if that tent wasn't there on the left side of the 18th hole..........

I hate when majors end like that. It is about as bad as it gets. If Ogilvy had been in the final group, we wouldn't be thinking about Phil. But when the leader is in the scorer's tent already, it takes the drama out of it. It reminds me of Ben Curtis being congratulated on the practice range at The Open.

I think there should be a new rule, in which every major champion who does not win in the final group has to play an extra hole with Greg Norman. Those majors always had great endings, and the leader is guaranteed to win.

I was rooting for Monty to be honest --- great temperament going into the weekend and great recovery after the first 9 on Sat. If it were based solely on how deserving a person is for all the trials and misses over the years, I'm sure Monty stood ahead of the pack... but alas golf is about nerves and the ability to reach the finish line... nonetheless, great try Monty!

Geoff deserves the title after scrambling the way he did over the last 18... Furyk, c'mon, read your line, commit to it and trust in your gut feel (the FIRST time round!).

Phil M, like the commentators said after the plunked his second shot into the gum tree 40 yards down.... he aged 5 years just there. Man so much for Phil's article after he won his first Masters... about controlling his swing, his wild big stick and playing smart.... nothing really smart about taking out the driver on the 18th, esp after hearing from the walking scorekeeper that Monty doubled ahead.

That's golf no doubt... cruel, and it keeps you wanting to come back for more.

I am thinking why didn't he just pitch out to the fairway after bonking one off the corporate tent and go for a playoff?

If that made you mad, what about the attempted fairway wood chop on the first par 5 that advanced the ball six inches . . .

I thought that was his silliest shot of the day. :friends:

Big congratulatiosn to Ogilvy. He really righted the ship and his performance on 17 and 18 was truly Major championship worthy!

Things that make you go "hmmmmmm"....

Why did Furyk back off three or four or five times on the put on 18? That was a real stunner, I would have never expected Furyk to miss under pressure, and actually expected him to win.

Why did Monty change clubs at the last moment? I was actually rooting for Monty, thought it would be great for a guy who's had some bad personal issues over the past couple of years, figured he could thank his ex-wife for the "motivation" to win....but when he went back to the bag, I knew the choke was coming.

Why didn't "Bones" just snap Phil's driver in two after the 15th hole? You could see this coming a mile away, and as much as these two guys communicate, why didn't "Bones" keep a cooler head and talk Phil out of driver the last three holes. The final three holes of the US Open are NOT the place to try to work out your driver issues! Hit three wood or 2 iron, and take the trophy to the range with you later when you go to work them out.

I'm not a big Phil fan, but hated to see it end this way. If he was going to lose, would rather have seen a great head to head battle, or a playoff tomorrow.

And last but certainly not least....anybody else think that there is a big party at Tiger and Elin's house tonight?

Almost forgot about that one. Phil is one of the players I always root for. To watch those final holes gave me "agita" and I can only imagine the terrible feeling Phil must have had then and at this very moment.

As for drivers...At least 3/4 of the field should have thrown that club out this weekend. Can you imagine if just one or two of the top players just hit 3 or 4 woods or 2 irons off the tee on Sat and Sun? They might have blew away the field.

In my fantasy leagues, I picked Furyk to win... but I was honestly rooting for Phil the whole way, i'd like to see someone win a true grand slam in my lifetime. After the first round, I like Monty's chances and if Phil didn't take it, I wanted him to get his first major.

Talk about nothing going my way... but I have to give my props to Geoff for not giving up and playing good golf.

Hopefully Phil will learn something from this and make him better. It's obvious to everyone what costed him this championship, and it wasn't the play of another person.

I wonder how Pelz & Smith were acting while watching him play that round? Does Bones deserve some of the blame for not putting some sense in Phil?

Watching his interview he said that "I only had a 4 wood in the bag and I thought that would have left me way to far back and my baby cut would have been perfect." Not his exact words but pretty close...

In all seriousness...after seeing Phil head to 18 with a 1 shot lead I was thinking d... dude he's gunna win all 4 in a row!

Tiger's partying you know that...

Just because Phil was hitting driver does not mean that Bones was not telling him to hit 4 wd. Phil is the player....Bones is the caddie. The player makes the final call.

Last thing......

How long before he puts 2 drivers back into play???
