Current best sub-$100 driver: TE XLD, Wilson Spine, Other?

Hello. I've got the itch for a new driver. I'm on a budget and hate paying top dollar for golf equipment anyway. What's the best "bang for buck" stick out there new or used? Callaway Diablo might be another contender in addition to the ones in the topic title. I have seen all of these used (and sometimes new) online for well under $100.

I might add that I'm not worried about working the ball or anything like that. Like to hit it straight with a medium trajectory.

Thanks!!!

There are some great used drivers here on the bst....I saw a couple of 905r's for less than $100, I had one but got sold. You can go to globalgolf.com and check out their open box section, sometimes they have good prices, or go to 3balls.com, they have drivers for under 100 such as the ft-5, cobra s9-1, cleveland hibore xls monster, etc etc. I'd def check the bst here first, got some real good drivers out there that can be bought for a great price and they're usually in really good shape.

Oh...if you can find one, bridgestone j33r 460 or 420 version....great looking driver and low spin.

Good luck!!

Is it worth its price - a used $120 XCG driver with an Aldila DVS shaft? Merely asking the folks here...

Thanks for the replies. I'm kind of interested in the Hibore XL. Between the Cleveland Gold and Prolaunch Blue, which shaft is better?

They are very similar shafts but I think I would go with the gold unless you really need extra spin.

Can't seem to locate many Adams 9015Ds in this price range. Too many choices. Stumbled across some Nicklaus DPT drivers for pretty cheap. Anyone have any experience with them?

Edit: After further searches, I don't think the Nicklaus would be that great. The Hibore XL seems to get rave reviews. I hit a XLS at Dick's last night. They are having a sale on them for $99 which is tempting. From what I have read though, the XL seems to get more love than the XLS. Still don't know about the shaft though. My SS is about 95 mph and I'm a smooth tempo swinger. Thoughts?

I have a Staff Spine, and it hits the ball very well. It's also surprisingly sleek looking on top - not as geometrically "boxy" as some of the geometric drivers look. The sound is less than desireable, but I can't argue with the results. Note though that it does have a shallower face than many other drivers.

Also seen last year's Adams Speedline on sale at a lot of places. Tried this at the store, and found it didn't really go farther than my Spine. However, if you like a deep face and a traditional head shape, it was very nice.

May be a good idea to check out Golfio.com - they have some good deals online, and also sell for a good price on eBay through auctions (got a new Nickent 3dx 5W for $35 delivered to Canada!).

Well Johnny,

It's not about the sound, it's about results!

The shallow face helps me tee the ball lower, allowing me to hit better in the wind where I live. The shape of the head is also great, as I find it easy to square up. Even the stock UST Proforce V2 shaft is pretty stout, and helps get the ball in the air.

I can't argue with the results, as I am hitting the Spine longer and straighter than any driver I tried recently. I even took it to Golf Town for a hit off against some other drivers (thinking of going to a lower loft), and could not hit anything consistently farther or straighter on the monitor than I already was with my Spine.

Ping G10 preowned from Golfsmith for $99, less whatever coupon they have floating around at the moment. I also tried the Callaway Diablo recently (cheap now with the Diablo Edge out), and hated it. I was expecting better based on its reviews. But for me, the Ping G10 is fantastic (I've tried it with prolaunch red, GD Tour AD YSQ, and stock TFC 129D, and have settled on the TFC 129D in regular flex in a 9* head). The Pings are very easy to resell or trade in for pretty much what you paid for them used, so that's another bonus.

Ping rapture, 07 taylormade burner, Hibore XL non tour. If you struggle with a push/slice id stay away from the 9015, mine is in the closet, but its super long. The first 3 are on my best from a few years ago list, still as good as anything new.

I'm really leaning toward the Hibore XL. I demo'd a XLS yesterday and liked it a lot. From what I have read the XL is about as good as the XLS. The Gold shaft seemed to suit me also. I fight a hook so I'm still interested in the 9015d. As I mentioned before, they seem hard to find. Didn't see any at the stores I visited yesterday.

Thanks.
