I did this a bunch last year at school. The nearest course was ~1.5 miles away and I didn't have access to a car. I just threw my clubs on my back, hopped on my bike, and was off. Certainly I looked a little goofy, but it worked and I was able to do more than just putt in my dorm room. Didn't have any issues to note of - the golf course even had a bike rack out front (the joys of living in a college town).

I have never done it, but I think it is a good idea for a number of reasons and I encourage you to do it.

I would think a small single strap bag with no stand, like a Ping Moonlite, would work best.

The trick, I suggest, is to put the strap across your chest, like a messenger bag, rather than just over one shoulder.

I agree with the post that says it would probably be a good idea to put the rain hood on the bag, to contain the clubs generally and just in case you tumble specifically.

[That said, I realize the Ping moonlight bag does not come with a rain hood].

.. or a (used and) modified kid trailer. I bet you can find several of those to choose from on your local craigslist.

That was my first thought as well. You should easily be able to convert it from a kid carrier to a club carrier. Then, use it as a push cart at the course.

I searched my Local Craigslist and had 70 + hits for "Bike Trailer".

This one was $40....

Too funny. Just finished Nick Faldo's autobiography. He convinced his parents to let him drop out of school at 16 or 17 to practice/play golf all day (this is a year or two before he turned pro). He strapped his clubs to his bicycle and rode to the course every day (through the woods apparently), and said he couldn't count how many times he and/or he clubs took a tumble into the mud.

Get a sticks bag like the really small puma one and titleist has one too. Barely holds 14 clubs and some balls. Most have rain hoods. You're good to go. I can speak from experience that you don't want any wide-bodied hard-frame golf bag on your back when you're biking. A sticks bag works great. Great exercise, too.

Have fun!

I rode a scooter to my course on The Big Island. It was about 6.5 miles and I carried a stand bag with the bag cover on for about 3 trips. I didn't feel comfortable with the space I was taking on the edge of the road. The bag protruded too much. I ended up strapping the cart to the back of the scoooter. That was the way to do it. Use some pannier brackets and flat rear carrier. You can secure it with Bungees or cord. Make sure it is secure or it can create a hazard to the road traffic. If you look shaky the police will get you off the road. . Good Luck

In case you still want to know how I do this with ease. A drawstring backpack; the clubs go in club heads down in the pack, and grip sides are stick up out the bag behind me. Like a quiver of arrows. Club head covers are recommended, and tightening the top of the bag keeps the clubs from rattling much. All the usual necessary gear besides the clubs fit in the bag with plenty of space to spare. I walk the course with this setup. The way the weight ends up being distributed... I actually jog the course. I feel like I'm a ninja or something, scoping out the course through the lens of the rangefinder, quickly calculating distances and options in my head, with my quiver on my back, preparing to take aim...

There’s an older guy at a local course that rigged up a way to carry his bag in the basket of a 3 wheel bicycle. He rode it while he played.

this morning, our proshop staff shared a story about one recent player that arrived on a bicycle, sunday bag over his shoulders, driver laid crosswise on the handlebars.

aforementioned player , when paying the greens fee, requested a riding cart, to accommodate his 'bad hip'.
