Evolution Lite

Anyone Playing it?

I'm seriously considering picking up an Evolution lite soon. I'm not a fan of butt soft tip stiff sticks, so the evolution just didn't do it for me. However, the evolution lite sounds like a much better alternative. I like more of a tip stiff but stiff mid kick shaft. From accuflex's website it sounds like the Evolution lite is more of a mid kick shaft.

Will the Evo lite fit the bill? Or does it share a bend profile akin to it's big brother? What about flex, I know the Evolution is reccomended to play a full flex stiffer than labeled. How about the lite, is it more true to flex?

I'll be having an SMT Encore driver built with an Accuflex shaft soon (trying to wait for my turn with the Bang/Ultraboom demo!). I exchanged several PM's with Jody about the differences between my top 3 Accuflex possibilities - Assassin, Icon V2 and Evo Lite. Here's how he described those three:

 

Assassin II WC - Smooth Feeling, Mid-High Launch, very long, tip soft, fluid feel.

Icon v2 - Smooth with firmness, mid launch, tip firm, very accurate.

Evolution Lite - smooth with "active" tip feel, mid-high launch, easy to load.

 

I've also exchanged PM's with a few Evo Lite users and most consider it a higher trajectory shaft, that fact coupled with Jody's "active tip, mid-high launch" description might bring it closer to soft tip/low kick performance than you'd prefer. Hard to say without having hit them but it seems like the Icon V2 fits what you're looking for but it's a heavier shaft, in that low to mid 60 gram range maybe the Ultraboom and Acculaunch 60 fit the mid launch/tip firm requirement a bit better. Hope that helps a little.

I've played the Assassin II WC (A2WC) and Icon v2. The A2WC is for smooth swingers (read smoother than me). The Icon v2 is an excellent shaft that feels so smooth that can handle an agressive swing. It is not as long as the A2WC but for my swing it was way more consistant. And it looks damm good in a black driver head! I have one in the garage waiting for the right 4wd.

Did you ever play the EVO lite?

I was looking into one. This or the JL.

 

I've had A2 and the ProLD and loved them. Really liked the ProLD. Also had Icons in my irons. Accuflex makes soem good shafts.

A buddy of mine installed an Evolution lite in his Ping G5. He likes a shaft with a nice kick in it and he loves it. Stiff flex bounces to 255 cpm. Hope that helps.

I've used them all,,, The Evo Lite is definately a soft tip/High launch shaft,,,, it is the exact opposite of the original Evo

I had one in a Nak 420 head and couldn't get it in the air! Pulled it and put in a MFS 65 and no problems. I couldn't flex it and it was supposed to be about 250 cpms like my other drivers. IMO they definitely play stiff.

Still have the pulled shaft in the garage gathering dust.

I dont think the Evo Lite plays stiffer as its BB Evo does. They are both good shafts. I have the Evo, Evo lite, just received my AccuLaunch 70 and EP shafts. Also have the ICON V2 shafts. All are great. Plus 2 proto Accuflex's. Jody knows how to make them good. Great dealing with you Jody and Todd.

I played one in a nike sq 460 max in an x-flex. It worked well b/c it is not one of those super low spin shafts since the sq max is ultra low spin head. reminded me of a gd ys 6+ except it will not balloon. The ball flight is excellent and the feel is super, but I must warn you that 1. It hits the ball a ton, you will get consistent distance, but I had a stiff flex and was all over the place, similar dispersion to a ys6+ which is much more wild for me than say a V2 75 or a blueboard 83 in the same flex. 2. I had one in a 905r and it didn't work. The 905r was too high a launch too high a spin for this shaft for me. All and all an amazing shaft, one of my favorites, but it took along time to get the right flex and head combo, hard to differentiate from the ys6+, and have found the V265 was a good combination between the evo lite and the V275, and for the money must give it a slight edge. Playing the V275 now but would go back to the evo lite if I go to the SUMO this year instead of the 905R
