Project X shafts

Are they responsible for my 73??
I'm currently a 9 handicap, which has steadily dropped from about 14 a few months ago. My normal irons are Callaway X-20's with uniflex steel shafts. Had them for about a year, pretty happy with their performance. Or so I thought.

A friend loaned me his Callaway X-22 Tour irons with Project X Flighted 6.0 shafts (he hits them too high for his taste.) He wants to sell them for a new set. I took them out to the range last weekend and really liked them... good trajectory, seemed to fly much straighter, more often. Then I played 18 holes Sunday morning.

Oh my goodness gracious!

Long story short, I shot a 73, +1. My previous best score was a 79. Shot 34 on the front nine. The only real difference was how close I was leaving my approaches. I was so much more dialed in, and had five birdies for the round.

So my question is... are the Project X shafts THAT much better? Has anyone had a similar experience? I'd really like to know, 'cause I have no explanation thus far.

Thanks...!

I would say combination of the shafts and a bit of a placebo....the shafts are better, the uniflex arent great shafts so you may have been a little less accurate with them....however as others have said, its the indian not the arrow. Its more likely that with the irons being something and bit new you subconsciously concetrated more, felt more confident etc and as such played better.

Take some credit for it, a 73 is a 73, great score!

Congratulations on the great round. :clapping: You may want to have the moi checked on each set. Perhaps the new ones are just more suited to you. It would be interesting to see if you could moi match a club or 2 from the new set to the old one and try them.

Uniflex is said to be firm or R+ and the 6.0 are at least a S+. Perhaps this has helped with the accuracy.

Yes, PX shafts are that much better then others, least for me. But, I am not convinced your 73 was due to those shafts. The closer single-low mid digit golfers get to having a grooved swing, mental self-control and using good judgment when playing, the better chance they will have of finding a stupendous round of golf. Congrats.:clapping:

I've tried and played most other shafts including X100's and Rifle 6.5. But not until 07 when I bought my original x-forged with PX Flighted 6.0's off the shelve did I have a come to Jesus golf game using PX Flighted shafts, carding a 68. They fit my swing better then any other shaft I've tested. And, at 60 I am still hitting the ball reasonably long when compared to others. For the most part, I owe that to the shafts, the rest goes to regular gym visits.

Assuming your round of 73 included using a putter? Take the driver, maybe 3-wood, hybrid and wedges out of the equation, then the actual contributution by the shafts in your irons gets smaller perhaps. All else being equal, they probably accounted for less than 40% of your score. But still a good score though - if the shafts make you feel better, that may be just the edge you need.
