So far not really impressed. :yahoo:

The only lens out so far are the VR50 to Brown Lens. Based on my tests they only change from about 50% light transmission to about 25% (light transmission = amount of light that is allowed.) In bright environments they are WAY TOO bright. If you live in a cloudy area they would be fine. However, the lens does get dark very fast, generally 30 secs to a 1 min and its fully dark, takes about 20-30 sec’s to fully lighten.

The Persimmon to Grey is presumably darker, but until I can test them I won’t really know. Persimmon is VERY bright at 61% BUT grey is generally very dark.

Unfortunately, Oakley has not yet published what the real light transmissions will be with these lenses.

Another MAJOR drawback in the Transition lens is the fact that they won’t work in your car as they darken in response to UV light, and car windshields block most UV rays. :yahoo: Contrary to a discussion with an Oakley employ claiming the would work in a car, they DO NOT work in my vehicle, and recently Oakley’s website added a small disclaimer that clearly states they wont work either

Please note: These photochromic lenses are enhanced with performance base colors, so they do not fade to clear in the absence of sunlight. See our prescription lenses for additional options in photochromic lens technology. Also note that photochromic lenses darken in response to UV light, and car windshields block most UV.

The Half Jackets have been in some selected major accounts for a couple of weeks and the main release with other models is due to ship this week. So, you should start seeing them in the next week or two. :bad:

Thanks for the feedback. Regarding comments about your car, are the lenses dark or light in your car or are they whatever they were when you got into your car?

They are very light in the car. UV rays cause the lens to darken. No UV rays in the car so they are nearly clear when you drive :yahoo:

Find the Oakleys are brighter than my MJ Sunglasses with Rose shade lenses.

The MJ polycarbonate lens have 14% light transmission versus my guess of the Oakley transition lens of 25%, there definitely is a huge difference. The Oakley “brown” is more similar to their G30 lens, but brown versus rose color in tint.

I'm rather picky with the type of lenses in my Oakleys. I think the transitions would work well if they had the tints that I liked (most notably gold to something else). Without that selection, I think a pair of half jackets with a couple of different lenses would work just as well. I am gonig to pick up a pair of G30's soon. It might take some switching lenses, but I would rather do that than be a first mover on a new Oakley technology.

Well I tested the "Persimmon to Grey" yesterday and it was a bit of a surprise.

They are actually “Persimmon to Brown”, no where near “grey” as stated on the box as well as on all of Oakley’s literature. In fact, when activated, the “Grey” as they state is WAY MORE “brown” in tint then the “VR50 to Brown” which is more than a little confusing. The “Grey” actually looks like a lighter “Titanium Iridium” lens. The “brown” lens is near the G30 lens with just a little less rose tint. But again, the activated “grey” (which is actually brown) is still way too light for bright environments. My guess is somewhere between 18% to 25% light transmission. By comparison, Black Iridium has 10% and Gold Iridium has 12% (the polarized versions of these lens are darker @ only 9%).

The persimmon (non-activated) is dead-on color though, super bright, good for nighttime sports, BUT would make you go blind in the middle of day. Hence, they are worthless for driving during the day because they wont darken. :yahoo: :yahoo: :bad:
