Help please 735 vs. 704 vs. 775

My HC ranges from 9 to 12. Currenty 10.6. I am an OK iron player but I score with long drives and a very good short game. I like my X-18's but have played Callaway for 10 years and want to look at something else. I have read all reviews and it seems all three sets i listed above all rate highly. But, which of the three sets would best fit my HC level? Thanks

Based on you HC the 735's fit the bill. However since you state your iron game is not your strong suit you may not like the MB short irons.

 

The 775's are game improvement (15 HC and up), but again since you state your iron game is not strong you may like these.

 

The 704's are nice, but I believe are about to be replaced by the 755's. Ive read they should be released in August/Sept.

 

So if you indeed dont like the 735/775/704 due to the above reasons and can wait a few months I would hold out for the 755's.

As you can see from below, I play 704's, I cant comment for 735 or 775 as I haven't him them, what I would say is that the 704's are the best irons I have ever played, My handicap is presently 9.9, but the 704's have helped me play consistently to this if not slightly below (my last 3 rounds have been mid 70's).

Theses clubs give great forgiveness on bad swing days, let you work the ball when you feel up to it, and given that the are due for replacement are likely to be on close out fairly soon.

If you aren't hung up on having the latest clubs then the 704's will be a cracking investment, indeed having had mine for 2 years I am thinking of buying another set to keep in the garage for when my current set wear out.

Without a doubt the 704s are your best bet. I have played all 3 sets at diiferent time and the 704s are the only ones that have stayed in the bag for more than a day or so. I have also replaced my first set of 704s with a second "fresh" set. They are a great set of golf clubs. However I will be curious to see about these new 755s, I dont think it'll be easy to replace the 704s

haha im gonna have to agree to disagree with both posts. the 775's are the most forgiving irons i've hit in a long time. they work the ball nicely, even as cavity backs, and trajectory is controlable as well. the mixed material (i think it's called something like that) works very well in the long irons. i would highly suggest u go with 775's because of the workability and the forgivness. good luck with whatever u get.

The 704's are an excellent set of irons. I played them for 1 1/2 years and shot a lot of good rounds with them, keeping my index around 3. If you're looking for a good forged but forgiving club, they're hard too beat.

 

But after reviewing my stats, mostly GIR, I determined that I was missing over 1 GIR per round more with the 704's than several previous sets of more forgiving irons I'd had before. So I just traded them in on a very clean set of X14 pro series.

 

Guess I decided the score was more important than whats in the bag. Certainly not the type of thing that fits with all the "forged is king" stuff you see on this site. But works for me...
