looking to change from Titleist to cally

Im thinking of changing my 690cb for cally X-Tours.
What do you guys think, i known i will get more forgivness from the X-tours but is there any other advantages?

I haven,t played the 690s,but have played a lot of forged "players CBs" and the Xtours have for me been the best all around iron.Great clubs.

I just recently switched from MP-60's to the Callaway X-Tours. The Callaway's are more forgiving, plus I can move the ball around with them too! It's a solid club and plays well from any kind of lie.

I really can't say enough good things about the X-tours. My game is getting good enough (5.3 index now) that they they are playable for for any mid to low handicap golfer. Yesterday I hit a really beautiful punch cut around some trees. The next hole I hit a high draw into a par 5 in two. Really the clubs have a great combination of forgiveness, feel, and workability. They will not be the most forgiving, they will not have the most feel, and they will not be the most workable; but the synthesis of what you get is really good.

 

Now, the things you have to get over is the rather wide sole (not a big issue for me), the top line (I think Callaway hides this really well with teh brushed and polished portions of it), and the perceived clunkyness (i just think that is what Callaway haters instantly say). If those issues are not a problem for you, I think you should give them a shot.

One thing to consider is the ball flight. I sold my X Tours because of that. They generate a lot of spin and launch the ball very high. If you are looking to hit the ball higher, they may be the solution. However, don't expect them to feel as soft or be as controllable in terms of trajectory as the Titleists.

 

As for the sole and top line, that is a personal matter. I actually got used to the rather clunky look, and it was certainly not the optics that made me sell them. The feel at impact was also not as smooth as I like, and I think calling them "forged" is a bit rich, as they are actually welded together from 2 pieces of "forged" metal.

 

Thats not what I would call forged, and you can certainly feel that at impact. Like me calling my BMW a Porsche, because it made in Germany! I think there are better clubs (in terms of looks and performance/forgiveness) available at a lower price.
