Worst You Have Done to Justify New Club to Wife

I'm thinking of gouging my driver shaft with my putter, as it sometimes do in my bag (well, it actually just scratches the shaft if the putter cover is off).

 

Then one day, the shaft will conveniently break....

 

Of course lessons will probably help more than getting 10 more ccs in a new driver....but that's besides the point.

 

What's the worst you have done to justify the purchase of a new club(s)?

True story...My wife wanted to have another child....I told her if I could get a new set of irons I would say OK((I was joking)..She said "YES"!...So one morning she comes in to tell me the good news....About 10 min. later I say "Hey!"......And now I have a new set of RAC TP irons....My Father in Law called me a whore....

I broke 2 shafts in 2 drivers that I owned at the time, then broke 1 more shaft in a fellow compettitors driver all while she watched in horror(seeing money go right out the window) and said I need more to carry with me just in case this happens again.

I had not really thought about it before, but I have lied to my wife about new club purchases. I kind of feel bad about it, as I have never really lied to her before, not even about little things.

 

But then I hit the perfect shot and the bad feeling ain't so bad...

It's like I remind my wife: " I could have alot worse vices than golf equipment. Like nudie bars, gambling, booze...." You get the idea.

 

Also, I just sell what I don't need/play anymore. As long as I have almost as much coming in as going out for clubs, she's usually 'ok' with it.

THAT is a funny story!!! I have NEVER heard of anything like that.

 

 

Me, I just buy new clubs, put them in the bag. I have enough clubs laying around that another one in the pile is not conspicuous.

 

I am not out of control though.....truthfully, my bag is SET!!!! And my oldest club....Original Nike CPR hybrid, is now my MONEY club at 200 yards!!!! :drinks: So new hybrids aren't in the works either....

That's me to a tee.....as long as one box leaves around the time one box leaves, all is good.....I tend not to stockpile too much.....1 backup driver, 1 backup set of irons, 2 backup putters.....

I could never get away with anything with my girlfriend (future wife) because I bring something home once a week at minimum!

 

She wouldn't mind though anyway...she knows how I am and she's a golfer too (and s l o w l y becoming an equipment junkie like me!) Our "golf room" is overflowing into other parts of the house (which is sad because it's one of the biggest rooms in the house!), one of our garage bays is now a "repair center", and we have to occasionally retrieve golf balls from the pool...but hey, it IS a water hazard, right?!?

 

But I consider myself extremely lucky to have such a great girlfriend!

How about this: given the opportunity, I'd be the one buying clubs! My husband goes nuts every time we come home to a big box on the front porch. It's not just guys...

Reminds me of in high school...the track coach wanted me to run and I told her in the spring if they resurfaced the track, I was in. Guess what they did that summer? I ran for the next two years :drinks:

 

I might be able to pull off a new driver with no problem. The wife thinks I play a Taylor Made. I have a Ping. I didn't have the heart or cojones to tell her that the TM was two back. Now I can go to the R7 or R5 whenever the mood strikes.

Tell me about it! When we finally settled my accident suit last year (me getting run over by a car), my wife said I should get something fun out of it (we didn't get much money after expenses). So, new golf clubs it was. We had planned on getting me new irons, ended up with a nicer set than I expected. Then, when the shop owner asked if there was anything else I was looking for she responded with "you need a new driver don't you?". SCORE!!!! And that was BEFORE she started really getting into golf! :drinks:

I have my 1 set at the house, My friends house is a mile down the road, as well as my little collection. Sometimes I keep my clubs at his house , when its not safe for them! :drinks:

I just ask her if she'd rather I spent my money on the small box that I have to go out for or the big box that gets delivered at my doorstep. The big box always wins!!! :drinks: Actually, she's as much a junky as I am but somehow I still seem to be the one paying for her purchases. I didn't really mind until I realized that her set costs way much more than mine does. I think this entitles me to another set!

I don't really have to "justify" - but I don't flaunt the new stuff either. I have everything shipped to the office, from there it goes to the car trunk, then to the carry bag and the staff bag of spares in the basement keeps the overflows.

 

I encourage her hobbies and she mine. Thankfully, we operate on the same frequency regarding the major things in life.

 

Having young kids definitely puts everything in a new perspective.

i don't really have to justify too much as I am in the business. Golf clubs come in and out of here all the time.

 

She is going to notice the reshaft on my driver. She loves the orange of the NVS and it is getting replaced by the grey of a diamana ;)

 

This coming off of the best driving of my life (accuracy wise)

 

Otherwise she doesnt care. She knows I loves wedges and knows i pretty much already own everything worth owning. I am graduating to my own line to satisify myself :man_in_love:
