Bag Tags

What's the point of bag tags? I've never had one or been to a course that put one on my bag. Sometimes I see guys with several hanging on their bags.

 

Do you guys have them? Where do you get them? What's the point of them?

decoration. think of it like a watch, ring, necklace, etc. i suppose it might be useful for caddies to find your bag, but I think it's mainly for decoration.

Don't some private clubs store your clubs for you? Also in some countries where golf is an upscale activity, a bag tag is a must for porters/ bellboys to match your bag to the right five person power cart, especially the Far East.

Having several tags seems a bit like having multiple one-day lift tickets on a zipper pull.

Functional use for bag storage to locate a member's bag.

Other use as a souvenir to show off where you've been.

When I was a kid in the seventies, I had several. They were plastic and all clacked together. It was the thing to do. Now I have none.

Where to get them? The pro shop!

Yes, for storing bags in a bag room or otherwise identifying bag (to put on a cart or give to a caddie). Club or resort.

The only bag tags I use is from amateur tournaments I've played in.

for juniors its helpful for college coaches to see what year you are, like the ajga bag tags have your name and the year you graduate high school

i'll also use a bag tag if i go to somewhere nice to brag that i've been there and you havent!

Growing up I had two. One was for my club storage at a private club since I was a junior and wasn't allowed a personal locker in the men's locker room. The second was a tag for juniors that signified you were able to play at any time. You had to be able to shoot below 85 as a junior to play during prime time or play alone. Also the final test was playing with the pro to prob check your etiquette.

Other than for the storage room in private clubs for member I.D., Bag tags are for insecure people who like to show off. Nobody really gives a S#$% what club you belong to or where you have played. Go out and fire off a par round on any course, and you'll get some recognition.

So do you use OEM headcovers? Wear any clothing with OEM logos? Seems the same to me.

I've gotten a few over the years. I now have 2 that have been on my bag for years. One is a ladybug from a course in Hawaii and the other I just think looks nice since it's metal with a bronze finish. I have them on there for no real reason. Nothing meaningful about the courses they're from. They're just the two best looking tags that I've received.

Most people have them as souvenirs. No more pretentious than a printed towel or a hat.

Yukihiro - that lady bug tag has to be from Ko'Olina - great course and everytime I see that logo it reminds me of the most perfect holiday of my life.... you've just inspired me to rock the lady beetle on my shoulder tommorrow - the ko'Olina shirt is coming out!!

The world is an awful place when you can judge a person by a 3x3 inch piece of plastic hanging off their golf bag.

i have two and both are to remind me of special people:

One is a Navy tag supporting my son that's in the Navy
Other is a brush aluminum tag shaped like Texas to remind me of the golf event i attended this year and the great people i met and played with.

i don'e think either of them are pretentious, just special to me.

I have no idea why people load their bags up with bag tags. If you're a member at club, then one is enough. Also, the plastic bag tags are awfully tacky.

Bag tags provide a visible place for you to display your name on your bag.

Lots of good reasons for this, for instance when bags are being matched to carts from the bag drop at a resort or during a tournament, or while being a guest at someone else's club, it helps the attendants.

If your bag tag, or tags, also serve to remind you of a nice place you played, or good time you had, that's okay with me!

My bag tag was gracefully provided as a gift from Titleist, which sent me one after I filled out a form on their website which identified my having used one of their balls for my first (and only to date) hole in one. I like it.

(Hope that doesn't define me as insecure.)
