i think i am going to love this. everything is pretty self explanatory and pretty simple to use. i have never owned a gps or lazer as i was afraid to lose it after shelling out the $$ for it. this seems perfect.

cannot wait to get to use it.

Cool...I would say to marry her but you obviously already did. But for other much more "private" things (whatever they may be), you would have to cover your tracks better. Enjoy the new watch!

has anyone noticed their S1 reading longer than actual distances by maybe 7+ yards or so? my S1 has never read exactly what the sprinkler heads at my club say, but i just chalked that up to standard variability and how the center of the green is determined. but this sunday it seemed to be reading even longer than normal on pretty much every hole and i wondered if position of satellites or even the tilt of the earth in the winter had something to do with it?

I've noticed that too on some days comparing to markers in the ground (and I've seen some markers wrong also). It's usually +/- 3yds (6 yds total), but GPS is GPS and shouldn't be off that much (7yds).

Thing is, if I'm playing a strange course, I'll verify the S1 to the 1st couple holes and calculate the difference. If they're within 3 yds, I'm good. If they're off, I'll make a mental note of the direction and then go from there for the rest of the day.

GPS error is random, and never from the same direction or distance, so making note of one set of errors and applying them for the rest of the day will most likely have you compounding the errors.

GPS can be off as much as 10 meters at any given time. I have both the S1 and the G5, and they rarely show the exact same number, but are usually within a yard or three of each other.

If you need accuracy within a yard or two you should probably use a laser.

i don't need it down to the yard, but if it's off by 7yds that could very well change my club choice.

interesting comment on east/west/north/south accuracy. on one hole that was N/S i had my partner check the yardage with his laser, I was off something around 8 yards from him. a couple holes later i checked it again and it was only off 3yds....which to me is perfectly acceptable. i guess i'm going to just have to check it against the sprinkler heads throughout each round.

I've found that many times, if the GPS is off by a good margin, it's off in a certain direction.
[/quote]
Trust me, this would be pure coincidence… unless of course the error is due to inaccurate mapping, and that variance was consistent throughout the mapping process (which is also highly unlikely).

Remember you will get your most accurate reading with the face pointing to the sky. A cart roof or tree cover will also reduce accuracy. Make sure your view of the sky is unobstructed, hold your wrist so the the face is pointing upward, and give it a moment or two to settle in to the new reading.

i just keep it on my bag, and i walk, so there's no vertical obstruction. also when walking i'm usually looking at it right after i set my bag down, so it should have plenty of time to settle.

Certain stores occasionally have dicounts off GPSs. Just have to watch the flyers.

Can't really go wrong with a watch that works. It's small enough and inconspicable enough not to really be noticed. Looks like a digital watch.

Purchased the S1 at Christmas time and recently got to play my first round with it (well part of the round anyway...since I forgot to charge it prior to the trip).

I have been using GPS's for years, starting with a SkyCaddie, Golf Guru, and most recently GolfLogix on my iPhone.

I have always liked the GPS and don't really struggle if the readings are off since 1) I am not that good of golfer to control my ball and 2) smart enough to know when the readings seem off.

I absolutely loved the convenience of the the S1 compared to using the iPhone or other GPS. Glance down, pick the club, and Shoot.

Leaving for my Spring golf vacation on Sunday and will have better information on my experience after those rounds.

Okay, so I am looking for some advice...

I'm not a great player (hover between a 11-13)....

I typically just use my iphone now for a GPS...

Do I :
A) Just get a V2 Rangefinder.. would be nice to have ont he range
or
B) Get an S1... I like that you don't have to search or download..It just knows what course you're on... Downsdie no idea to trouble (bunkers/traps)

ALSO: When are thinking the GPS/Rangefinders will have their $50 off deal again @ Golfsmith? Before father's day?

Played 36 holes today with the S1.

Battery lasted the whole day, but I did get a low battery warning on the 17th hole of the second round (btw...The second round was 5 hours).

I really like just looking down at my wrist for the readings. We were playing courses with on-cart GPS (Orange Country National) and the readings on the watch agreed with the cart the whole time (within a yard or two). I also compared the reading to the hole markers and almost every time they were right on (or within a yard once or twice).

I am still not quite use to wearing a watch when golfing.

Time will tell if it will bother me enough to not use it. Right now I would say I will continue to wear it through the rest of the year, but I will need to golf bettertongue.gif

I do like the watch better than using the iPhone. Much faster then trying to read the iPhone in the bright sun.

I still have a few more rounds on our spring trip...I will provide more updates if I think they will be useful to someone else.

golfsmith.com had 10% and free ship yesterday.... But sometimes the offer $50 off GPS/rangefinders... I;d wait it out if you can be patient.. I know I can;t be patient :)

I ended-up opting for a V2 two days ago instead of the S1..... I may get an S1 wtch , as well for quick "look and shoot".. They seem very handy

I got it and I love it works great for me. I had the original sky caddie, the SG4 and still have the Garmin G3. The main reason it works for me is I can see the display with out my glass which I never wear when I plan.something about all these new color displays I have a hard time seeing them with out my glasses the old LCD displays no problem. The G3 is great too especially if you need distances to hazards, bunkers, etc. but it requires extra fiddling with it to get the information. I carry a laser also so I can just point and shoot on that. The S1 is convenient and I have my yardage fast without mess with anything works well on coarse that I know and it is all I use when walking.

I start caddying part time at Pebble Beach in a couple of weeks- do you recommend this product for my golfers? My main question is: does this watch measure distances from the tee to specific bunkers or hazards? I can use the information around the greens but if the watch does not give me any additional information I'm not sure it's perfect for a caddy. Now, saying that, I've heard a few caddies at Pebble already use this watch.

Had posted this a few days ago, but it seems to have dissapeared. I have tried the alarm setting on the conventional watch side and found it almost impossible to hear. Very low volume. Has anyone else tried it and found the same results? Not realy a big issue, but am wondering if this is normal. Thanks for any reply.

Does the S1 read distances from the tee box to bunkers or hazards?

My S1 has been working great...until 2 weeks ago, now I can't get the battery to last an entire round. After 3 hours I get the low battery warning and then 10 minutes later its dead.

I tried charging it last time with the usb on my computer rather than the charger that it came with, but no difference. It worked fine for the first 15 rounds and now for the last 4 rounds, its losing its juice.

Anyone have any ideas? I am really happy with it up til now.
